cw: police brutality, gun violence, use of the n-word by white characters, racism
I really enjoyed this book. The characters and interpersonal relationships were so well crafted. Every character and relationship felt like one I had seen in real life or one that I could see. It also was incredibly important. Friendship is a topic that is underexplored in YA fiction but this book beautifully explored the ways in which friendship is another form of love, of the heartbreak that it can usher in, and I applaud it.
However, at times the story was meandering and overall it felt just a little too long for me to give a full fives stars. I think a tighter and more concise plot would've elevated this book but all in all, it was still an enjoyable read and a book I highly recommend.

I received an e-arc from the publisher via netgalley.
