I devoured this in one day! What a lovely and odd little book. Immediately, the setting, writing and plot make you feel uneasy. As if there is a “shadow” lurking while you read it. At first the dialogue was hard to follow but once you understood the cadence of the characters’ speech it was easy! Mix in the author’s social commentary and you have yourself the kind of explorative story that really makes you think!
Do go into this one knowing that you’re dropped into the middle of the story with not much explanation for what’s going on. But trust the journey the story is taking you on and you will for sure enjoy it!
Fun fact, One Hundred Shadows was originally published in 2016 and is now being published in a gorgeous hardback edition on August 20th, 2024!
I can’t wait to enjoy more translated fiction this year!

Sometimes you finish a book and you know it’s not a 5 star read but you can’t pinpoint why?? That is this book for me. I think that maybe it just wasn’t as suspenseful as some other thrillers I’ve read. But I was curious enough to want to see how it ended. The bad guy in this one I hated and gave me creepy, disturbing vibes! This is a first POV with past and present timelines. I don’t not recommend this one (haha) but if you want a more edge-of-your seat suspense maybe go with a Riley Sager book instead.
Dual POV and grumpyxsunshine perfection! I don’t know what to say besides this book was adorable! I’ve never seen Audrey Hepburn's Roman Holiday but this story is inspired by it! It was silly and fluffy at times but in the right ways. The characters felt real to me and their conflict gave the right level of …. well I guess conflict! The small town was so funny and the side characters hilarious! I can’t wait to read the second book which follows this MMC’s sister!
Kicked off February with Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver! I read the trigger warnings and dedication page for this and genuinely thought…. I don’t know if I can read this?? I don’t want to spoil so I’ll just say it’s a romantic comedy that follows two serial killers
I devoured this in about two days! I don’t like spoilers but when a book is this good it’s hard to hold back! BUT what I will say is this is a romantasy following a witch and a witch hunter set in what are definitely Bridgerton vibes. The pacing is so so good and each character has a lot of depth. You really get to learn their motivations and their fears. I loved how distinct the POVs were and the flashbacks which heighten the stakes! This was even more fun in that it’s a bit of mystery and you are trying to figure out what is happening as you go along. I saw some things in the end coming but one major event I was NOT prepared for and it broke me! I so want a HEA but it ended on a huge cliffhanger and now I am dying to read book two in this duology. Overall it’s fun, action-packed, and swoon worthy!

This story is like a sweet cup of hot tea! A story you pick up when you want something quietly comforting. A story that is simple and endearing. During the pandemic our FMC’s three adult daughters come back home to their Michigan cherry farm. Yes, a cherry farm! And they beg her to relive her past and tell them the story of when she dated a famous actor. I listened to this one in audio because I had too once I knew that Meryl Streep performs the audio! Her performance brings this story to life and I recommend consuming this story exclusively in audio - which I don’t say often. There were so many understated and quiet revelations about life, getting older, love, and family. There is no huge climax in this story, no huge tension, and there are several long scenes where you just sit with the beauty of the cherry farm but gosh oh gosh. When you want a story like that… this is where you need to turn too.
I wanted to like this I really did! But something about the story just didn’t work for me. I never cared about the wedding planning or about any of the side characters. The FMC’s mean former employer wasn’t intense enough either. I especially didn’t enjoy the romance. The FMC/MMC were somehow perfect for each other but from the past POV I never felt that. They seemed not right for each other for 80% of the book then in the end they magically solve all their problems without ever talking about it. I almost dnf’ed this one BUT this is just one girl’s opinion.
