This is my first Lynn Painter book and while it was a very cute concept, a girl has a horrible Valentine’s Day, goes to sleep, and repeats the same V-Day over and over and over again, I think I’m definitely not the target audience for this book! It felt tooooo YA and toooo high school. But it was quick, cute and fun! And I couldn’t pass the opportunity to read this in February
Reading my third Sarah Adams book as we speak because she does romantic comedies so so right! I love a longtime friends to lovers trope! But my favorite thing about this was the MMC and the FMC actually sit down and have real conversations about real feelings! The MH representation was so refreshing and sincere too. This was like living out the TS/Travis hype in book form but better!
4/5 stars for this is not bad at all! I was very intrigued by the whole set up of this story and the lake setting was so perfect and creepy. I loved having an unreliable narrator and at some point in this story I had no idea who could be responsible for the disappearance of Katherine. But then the plot twist ended up being a paranormal twist which would be so fine but the whole book you are led to believe it's more of a true crime twist and then bam! Something paranormal happens that felt so out of context for the story that it felt really unbelievable. But honestly otherwise it was a great read and I recommend!
The first half of this was giving me that five star feeling! But then we got to the second part where the aunt was introduced, and I just did not enjoy her character. I just couldn't feel emphatic towards her and I much preferred the uncle/niece relationship. That being said this was a short and cozy book that really celebrates bookshops and reading!
My first Mariana Zapata book and I now realize why she is hailed as the Queen of Slow Burns! I enjoyed how quickly the setup of the story was - our FMC is starting over by moving back to her hometown following a bad divorce. But then what follows are months and months of our FMC slowly rebuilding and rediscovering herself. At some point I started wondering if this was really in the romance genre? Our MMC is present throughout the whole story but what we see on the page is the blossoming of friendship, respect, and trust. The effect is that when these two get together in the end, and they doooo get together in the end **swoon**, it is so stinking satisfying! It feels natural, triumphant, and meant-to-be! I have found myself wishing that I could read just one more quiet scene with this whole cast of characters. I only didn't give it five-stars because it felt repetitive sometimes especially towards the end.... some of the pivotal character and story moments were too drawn out IMO. BUT I already have plans to read another Zapata book! :)
The sequel to When in Rome - I had high expectations for this and honestly most were met! We go back to our little, small town of Rome, Kentucky and this time we are following Annie Walker (soon to be sister-in-law of Amelia Rose from book 1). This was a sweet, low-stakes, and quick rom-com! I'll be honest I can't remember much of the plot anymore! I think four stars because the plot is forgettable but when you want a closed-door romance Sarah Adams is your girl!
Guys.... five stars! Maybe 6 stars! Elizabeth Zott has to be one of the baddest and funniest characters of all time. Seriously, she is a fierce certified-baddie! And I wanted to murder every male character that stood in her way in this story! I dare you to read just one chapter and not get hooked. I laughed, I fumed, I cried. And the way the story was crafted! *chef's kiss* The story is told in third person omniscient which means we see the POV of every character....even one of my favorite characters, a dog named six-thirty. This was just such a sharp story, full of ups and downs, mystery, action, and love! With themes on gender inequality, science vs. religion, parenthood, family, and tragedy. Truly a MUST read, and I actually listened to the audio which I can confirm is excellent!

“Whenever you feel afraid, just remember. Courage is the root of change - and change is what we're chemically designed to do. So when you wake up tomorrow, make this pledge. No more holding yourself back. No more subscribing to others' opinions of what you can and cannot achieve. And no more allowing anyone to pigeonhole you into useless categories of sex, race, economic status, and religion. Do not allow your talents to lie dormant, ladies. Design your own future. When you go home today, ask yourself what YOU will change. And then get started.”

Read The Poppy War by R.F Kuang this month as part of a buddy read and for @johnscreekbooks Fantasy book club!
Honestly, R. F. Kuang never disappoints! This world is so complex and layered! I enjoyed both the fantasy aspect and how the war is actually based on the Second Sino-Japanese War. Do go into this with a something to take notes on because the plot thickens really quick! I’ll definitely be finishing this trilogy!

Okay! I don’t regret reading this one but I also only remember one lesson from this
This was quick low-stakes spicy read! Nothing crazy special about it and I had a hard time rooting for the main couple.
