want to see what the evil women-likers have to say about this one because most of them are fake and faint the moment they consume content featuring women who are actually evil and not just making tall claims while wearing black leather and a red lip
bro thought he could liberally sprinkle information without proper authentic sources and thought that we wouldn't notice
as one of the rare few for whom this novel was the introduction to donna tartt's bibliography, i thoroughly enjoyed this novel. there was never a dull moment and it was interesting to trace the tell-tale heart-esque nature of theo and his conflicted emotions and sentiments regarding the stolen painting. with an intriguing set of characters and well fleshed-out personality for a novel, this novel would definitely be recommended by me
i was never a huge fan of the first novel but by god, this one has no plot to speak of. i think the only kind of reader who would enjoy it are those who are nostalgic for the characters following their appreciation of 'to kill a mockingbird'.
the enormous effort that the author contributed towards scouring for even the most minute of details has to be commended. he details the stories of popular historical figures like a novel, with its little subplots of conflict and their respective resolutions and re-emergence, all accentuated by a cast of well-known real-life figures. i did have some apprehensions about the nature of the author's partiality to the figure that has been focused on the most in this novel, sethu lakshmi bayi herself, but would overall recommend this novel for an immersive dive into kerala history for someone who is new to the readership of this type.
would recommend if you would like to read a historical fantasy featuring powerful women, court intrigue and an unforgettable sapphic couple at the center of it all, complete with deception, murder, and magic.

my first novel by madeline miller, and i adored it. i loved the different take on circe, hercules, and the other prominent figures in greek mythology, all rendered in sparkling and lyrical prose

a collection of essays on indian history divided into three parts: before the raj, during the raj, and after, all accompanied with beautiful illustrations. it was an interesting collection of facts and events that i was personally unaware of, i liked it well enough
apart from the lacklustre nature of the writing behind the protagonist, i was slightly uncomfortable by the way some things were written. i don't mean in a 'oh, the possibility of this dystopia occurring makes me so unsettled, truly the sign of a great writer!' but rather in a 'this author does not sound like a good person.' and i was right! rapist and racist, also a part of the imperialist system that his purported opposition was directed against. also, trying to utilise marxist principles to create an anti-proletariat society? nice try!
