This series has been excellent. I'm completely invested in these characters and I can't wait until the next book is published.

I picked up this book based on the cover alone. I didn't even check to see what it was about...I was buying it. Wow. The story is told in the voice of a kid trying to be tough and "street" because that's how he thinks he has to be...but that voice is so fresh because this is his world...and that world of neglect and struggle is harsh and real, but with the small group of outcasts that he considers his "fam", that shit shows some real feeling, yo. There isn't anything nice going on here, but in his world, it just is what it is. Dark, depressing, funny, heartwarming.

Fun 80's horror read. Killer cockroaches are on the loose on this island off of Cape Cod, and no one is safe.

My introduction to V.E. Schwab was through the Villians series, and man, I absolutely loved those books. I'm not big on the Fantasy genre, but I needed more V.E. Schwab and figured that I'd try the Shades Of Magic series. I'm not used to this genre, and after the first few pages I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to hang...but once we started to get deeper into the story and got to know the characters, I was sold. Once again, V.E. Schwab has me hooked.

I don't care about hockey, but damn, this book pulled me in for this story about a small hockey town that is so passionate about its sport, that it truly struggles when it experiences a horrific tragedy. I hated this town. I loved this town. The characters were real and more than once I had tears stinging my eyes as they grapple with hard decisions, and I was seeing red with their cruelty and selfishness. Truly moving and the audiobook was fantastically narrated.

I'm torn on this one because this book read like a rom-com, and isn't something that I would normally read, but this was actually a lot of fun and entertaining. I'm tempted to give it 4 stars, but I'm holding it at 3 because even though it was a fun read, it most likely won't have me rushing to the store when the next book from Richard Roper is published.

I decided to check this one out simply because of the book cover. There is something about it that is disturbing to me, so I needed to see what was going on between these pages. About 3/4 of the way through this book, I was thinking of giving this a two star rating...things weren't very realistic to me and things were lining up too conveniently...and then I was blindsided by the ending. Didn't see it coming at all. Well done.
