My December Darling by Lauren Asher

"some might consider that a form of flattery."
"what's the antonym of that?"
"fuck if i know. i'm a doctor, not a thesaurus."
~ ♡ 4.5/5
i had to deduct half a star because some of the dialogue made me cringe, and the initial horror of finding out aidan (aka the GROOM) was catalina’s ex just didn’t sit right with me for a little.
but i absolutely Loved (with a capital L) luke and catalina. the way luke was so gentle with her and did everything he could to make her comfortable. i loved them from start to finish.
this book felt so cozy, no miscommunication, no third act breaks up??? oh it was heaven.

"do you want to put the knife away now, millie? i think we are safe from the mouse. "

thank you for giving us the old enzo and millie because what i read in THM3 was not it.
but on that note, PLEASE let this series die already. it should have been a duology.

“well, you’re wounded.”
“yeah, thanks, i headbutted a mountain.”

once again, i loved ayla and crier so much and was so happy when they reunited even if it was half way through the book. i love their dynamic and how they would do anything for eachother even after ayla planned to kill crier in book one.
i LOVED faye this book. i was so happy when we got a bit more of her.
benjy lowkey annoyed me this book and i don’t even know why. was it the way he disregarded aylas feelings so easily? or was it just him in general i have no clue.
i really liked the plot of this book and im glad we got to see more of ayla and crier apart from eachother and also together.
the ending felt a tad rushed, but it was a nice ending. i wish we got more of the lockets and got to see more memories that were inside them.
also STILL hate kinok and we can now add hesod because he got on every single nerve i have.

"no, but i always wished for a sister."
"you can borrow one of mine-the dramatic one, preferably."
~ ♡ 1/5
no romance. no chemistry. no likeable characters.
the writing was mediocre.
the mmc had sex with the fmc while her son was in the next room. they had TWO conversations and he wanted to marry her because she made him custom pants.
also the overuse of the author saying he was so large and everything on him was huge. shut up.
burn this novella. unwrite it. i don’t care just erase it.

"kas'im says fohargh did not lower his guard, he says you simply ripped through it. his defenses couldn't stand before your power."
~ ♡ 4.25/5
the world building from start to finish was perfect. the way the author wrote and portrayed not only bane but every single character that was brought into the story (minor or not) was beautiful.
the way we saw bane grow from the miner that was alone and just wanting to get off his planet with no debt. to the strongest dark lord of the universe.
he was such a complex but intriguing character and i have never rooted for a villian more.
i cant wait to keep reading.

"he won't touch you again."
"you'll be in trouble."
"but he won't touch you again."

i wish i could have liked this more than i did, but i just didn’t feel connected to the characters at all. i loved the lgbtq+ representation and i LOVED lana lang but that’s about it.
the ending also felt super rushed and open ended too.

first of all: after i finished this book i dissociated and stared at my wall for 45 minutes. i was so overwhelmed with so many feelings i didn’t know what to do.
second of all: this books writing flowed so perfectly and the world building wasn’t too overwhelming that i could pick up on things and piece them together before being told in detail.
crier was so beautifully written, even as an automa you could tell she was so much more human then she was a ‘leech’. the ending to the first book from her perspective was so, heartbreaking but really solidified how human like she was despite being brought up by her father.
ayla was also so beautifully written. the way she was portrayed. the way she wanted to love but feared she couldn’t made my heart hurt. she felt so deeply, and so much. i wish we got more time in her head.
kinok can die and i will stand and perish on that hill. idgaf if he redeems himself i hate him.
i loved everything about this book and i can’t wait to read the next one soon.

you are yourself, and so remain, as i remain.

i wish i could sit here and list all the reasons why i loved this book and why it already is so dear to me, but i fear i have no words.
the writing was absolutely beautiful, the words felt like i was floating on a cloud with not a minuscule of care to be seen.
this book not only made me want to curl in on myself and cry but go to a cliff side and scream into the abyss.
i felt so much, so deeply and the way they spoke of eachother made me realise i truly do love, love.
red and blue,
i love you.

yeah no literally hated this. the dialogue was weird. the characters weren’t likeable. just not worth the read.
