This book has been on my radar since Christmas time. I purchased it as part of a Christmas Haul for myself but waited to read it until this month when Brittany from Brittanylovesreading and Kelsea from readswithkelsea announced it as their bookclub pick for February for their B&K bookclub! It also fits the prompt "highly anticipatped read" for Battle of the Girlbands for team Cheetah Girls!

Upon reading this book I could immediately tell that the author was inspired by some other YA series when writing this book. I am all for inspiration BUT when I feel like an author literally copied and pasted a scene from another book I'm personally going to have issue with that. It is quite clear that the author was influenced by the Hunger Games which is fine I love a book with a good trial / compitition and I thought that this storyline was unique adding in characters who had different powers.

I also loved the banter / flirting between Payden and Kai I thought their relationship was building slowly throughout the story and I was rooting for them to actually share a kiss by the end! I thought that Kai looking out for Payden throughout the trials really helped build their relationship.

However I thought that Payden used Kitt to her advantage to get what she wanted from him and overlooked the fact that he liked her. I thought that this aspect of the story along with building up the Resistance could have been stretched out a bit more and possibly waited until book 2.

For me personally
I felt like the aspects and details of the 3rd trial were copy and pasted from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. A Maze that changes direction and a friend who dies in the end has been done before. So I was left feeling underwhelmed by this scene even tho I was crushed by her friends death...

But the other reveals and events towards the and almost made up for it for me. I feel like Payden has a huge target on her back now especially with the brothers / members of the kingdom. I do plan on giving the next books in the series a shot. I am interested to see what direction the author takes the series. I think Payden better get eyes in the back of her head because the boys have every right to be upset even through the king was not a good person.

(February 2024)

I guess I've read this first book more than I originally thought. I knew I had read it at least twice but according to my last review its been much more than that. Anyway...I decided to do a re-read of this series this year with a bunch of friends from booktube! Dustybooksniffers is the host and I am honestly so glad I decided to re-read this series because I loved this book so much! I also counted this book for the prompt "a book with an animal on the cover" for girlbands readathon hosted by rainybluereads for team cheetah girls!

This time I decided to emersion read this book by getting the audiobook on audible and reading along with the physical book and it was probably the best decision I've made so far this year! I absolutely loved the audiobook narrator and I thought he brought this story to life even more! His voice acting was superb in my opinion!

If you know me from instagram, booktube or in real life conversation you probably know that I am obsessed with the Harry Potter movies. They bring me a lot of comfort and help me relax so I fall asleep to the movies all the time! Well I loved this audiobook so much I may have a new comfort audiobook now! There were some scenes that are in the books that aren't in the movie and I was honestly extremely entertained in engrossed in this book that I would have read it all in one sitting if I didn't have to work yesterday!

Even though I know this book pretty much by heart it brings me so much joy and happiness to be in the Harry Potter universe. It was special when I was reading this series for the first time when I was a child but I feel like its even more so now as an adult and I can't wait to continue with this series in March!

I am participating is a read-a-long for this series hosted by Katy at _iwouldratherbereading! I also used this book for The Girls Band Readathon hosted by Rainy Blue Reads. I used this book to fit the prompt: "Book I've been thinking about unhauling" for team Cheetah Girls.

This was my first time reading this book and I had such a fun time with this one. I can absolutely see why this series is beloved by fans! I loved the adventure in this book! The descriptions of the monsters and creatures were top tier! And I can see potential for strong storylines and character development in future books! I listened to the whole book in 3 hours and I was so engaged in this story that I forgot to comment in the last half of the readalong comments! So I'm hoping others are still up it discuss it when they do read it!

I cannot wait to discuss this with the people in the readalong this month! Lots happens and it is a very quick read and I am excited to continue on with this series!

I waited a few weeks for my hold to come in at the Library for this one and I was so happy when my library got their copy in last week! I knew it wasn't going to take me long to get through and my heart is so happy because of this graphic novel!

In my eyes Alice Oseman can do no wrong! This series has definitely grown with the characters and it is starting to cover older topics now that the characters are older teenagers. It covers sex which can be complicated and confusing (I know it definitely was for me in high school) but being LBGTQ I'm sure its even more complicated. There was closed door scenes between Nick and Charlie in this graphic novel which is to be expected but I think it was done in a very mature way for the audience these books are geared towards.

There is also the topic of College Acceptance and long distance relationships - This hit hard for me personally as many of my friends and my cousin graduated a year before me and many of them went far away for college and I felt like I was being left behind and it put a strain on our friendships. For me personally I entered a deep depression and felt very alone in my early 20's. I think this does a good job explaining that if someone chooses to go to college far away it is their choice and has nothing to do with the person being left - they are still loved and cherished the same by that person even if they decide to leave the area. It is their personal choice to make. I wish I had know and accepted this back then and maybe I wouldn't have taken it so personally.

There is also a little bit of Acesexual representation in this book when Tori comes out to Charlie! I personally felt very seen during this scene because I don't think a lot of people know what Asexuality is. I think Tori did a good job explaining it and I can't wait to pick up her book Solitaire in the future and read more of her story / experiences!

Overall this graphic novel made my heart so happy! I think it was very well done in the timeframe we were given. I honestly can't wait for Volume 6 to see what Nick decides to do about college and if Nick and Charlie decide to stay together!!!

I am so glad I decided to finish my Throne of Glass journey this month thanks to TBRathon hosted by Leandrathetbrzero. Basically the point of this readathon is to read books off of your tbr. She made different boards / games to make this a fun process! I chose to work on the Bingo board and I definitely didn't expect to finish Empire of Storms, Tower of Dawn and Kingdom of Ash this month. I am so proud of myself for finishing all three books in 3 weeks!

As for my review for this book I don't think I am a Throne of Glass super fan but I did enjoy my time with these 3 books. My TOG journey has been a long one but I am so happy that I decided to start my year off by completing this series! If you know you know that this series follows multiple storylines throughout these books. I really enjoyed each one and I won't go into to much detail but I am glad that for the most part I wasn't wrecked by this conclusion.

There is an epic battle in this book between 2 very evil characters. The war is graphic and brutal and a lot of things happen over a lot of pages. I thought this conclusion was intense and held my attention. This book is huge so the audiobook definitely helped. Of course I have my favorite characters / storyline and everyone goes through it in this book. These books are definitely not for the faint of heart and it is a very long journey to get to this conclusion. But I'm proud of myself for sticking with it and finally finishing this task!

I finally decided to come back to this series after a year away because I was intimidated by the size of the tandem read. After talking to multiple book friends who have also read this series and enjoyed it I decided to take a chance and attempt the Tandem read of Empire of Storms and Tower of Dawn for the TBRathon readathon hosted by LeandratheTBRzero! The point of this readathon is the lessen the amount of your TBR. I am so glad I listened and picked these books back up!

I did enjoy the tandem read every much! If you want to see my thoughts on Empire of Storms please go to that review!

I think I have the unpopular opinion when it comes to this book because I really did enjoy this one! Not quite as much as Empire of Storms but I really did enjoy Chaol's journey to healing and finding love. I am a firm believer that everyone deserves to be happy and fall in love.

I absolutely love Irene I think she is an extremely talented healer and an independent person who knows what she wants. I think she is an extremely strong character and I really enjoyed her storyline.

Chaol was definitely battling some demons in this book but I think the storyline of his progress made his journey to healing mean so much more!

There is no way I'm going to remember all of the characters in this book so I'm not even going to try! I think I am a fan of the multiple storylines for this series tho!

I also enjoyed Nesryn's storyline as well! The only thing I really had issues with in this book was the huge spider monsters. I do not like spiders they are literally my worst fear so the scenes with the spiders was a little tortuous for me. But other than that I really had no issues with this book.

I should have seen the reveal of who the volg possessed coming...in the end it was pretty obvious but I was taken by surprise by that reveal! (I honestly can't remember the names of all the princes and princesses lol)

There were a couple other important reveals that happened in this book that I'm glad I read in Tandem read form. Other than that I enjoyed this story I think its important and necessary but I didn't have quite the same reaction that I had to the end of Empire of Storms.

Empire of Storms may beat out Tower of Dawn just a little bit for me personally. I did really enjoy both books but if you want my feelings on TOD please go to that review!

Empire of Storms picked up right where Queen of Shadows left off and at first I thought I was going to have a hard time remembering details from QOS because it has been a year since I read that book. Fortunately I was fine and I think the audiobook definetly helped me. It took me a little while to put faces and names to characters again but after a while I was totally fine and was absorbed into the story. This book was action packed. I really enjoyed the multiple storylines happening at the same time it kept the story interesting! So much happens in the book and I think Sarah J. Maas is a mastermind for coming up with every twist and turn and putting it all together!

I literally loved every storyline and how it all came together! My favorite storyline tho is probably Alien and Rowen. I like that there romance was slow burn and we really got to know them as individuals throughout this one. Rowen will literally do anything for his Queen and his actions show it!

I also really enjoyed Manon and Lysandra! Both of these side characters are BADASS! I would not want to get on either of their bad sides! These 2 are probably my favorite side character storylines!

The storyline that surprised me most was Lorcan and Elide! I don't trust Lorcan for a second but I think Elide is bringing out a side of him was have yet to see. Do I think he is dangerous and scary as hell also yes. Do I trust him absolutely not.

The final scenes of this book broke me. I hate Mave and I pray that Alien can find a way of her current situation. I won't go into too many details but basically the ending of this book is the reason why I am picking up Kingdom of Ash tonight. I have literally been waiting all day at work to dive back into this world and find out what happens next! I think I will be broken by this final book tho!

For 2024 I hope to stop worrying so much about if I'm going to like a book or not. I want to go into my reading with a open mind and not worry about the hype or if I'm not going to like something. I could have finished this series in 2023 if I wasn't so focused on fitting into a mold of being a Sarah J. Maas girly. If I like a book I like it if not thats ok too!

This will be my last read of 2023 and book number 51 for me for the year! This was also my Christmas present from my in real life bookish friend Michaela! We decided to take a trip to Barnes and Noble and buy each other presents this year which was so much fun and will probably turn into a yearly tradition for us!

I chose this book as my present because of the hype around it from booktubers that I follow! Many of them said this book was not necessarily live changing but overall it was a fun enjoyable read for them and I have to agree with them on this one!

I also read this book as part of The "Who did this to you" fantasy romance bookclub hosted by toribetween pages on Fable! This was my first time reading a book for this bookclub and I feel like I missed the discussion with this one because I read this literally the last week of the month. This is my fault and not the bookclubs. I do have one friend who is also reading this book at the same time so its been fun chatting with her as I go on the app!

I am also still new to Fantasy Romance and figuring out the tropes that I like in this genre. Honestly I had a good time with this book even if it was cringy at times. I did predict both big reveals very early on in this book so I was kind of let down by that. I did LOVE the banter between Arwen and Kane! I HATED the "fall for my childhood friend / possible side interest because we have a history" Literal NONSENSE! I HATE  Halden with every fiber in my bones.

Things I did like about this book was the side character female best friend. And Arwen's love for her family. I like that there are both witches and Fea in this world. I would love to learn more about both species in book 2. The adventure - I love a book with adventure and fighting for something for the greater good!

Like I said the big reveals weren't exactly reveals for me.
I had a feeling Arwen and Kane were both Fea I just didn't know that Arwen was destined to kill the fea king and save the world but
honestly its not all that surprising for a female lead character. I am also not disappointed and definitely plan on picking up book 2 when it comes out in April!

Thank you for the recommendation Booktubers!!

I started this book for a prompt for Get A Clue Readathon in November and I am so glad I made it a goal to finish it this month!

My plan for 2024 is to try more fantasy romance and I kind of dipped my toes in genre starting in November and December this year. I am still learning what I like and dislike since it is kinda new to me.

I did like this book and it is starting to make its rounds on Booktube. I've seen this one along with the companion series mentioned in multiple videos recently! I do wish I didn't put this one down when November ended and had started December with this one. I think splitting it up the way I did effected my over all enjoyment.

I thought the romance was good but also a little corny at times. I don't think there needed to be as many spicy time scenes I thought it took away from the storyline a little bit (I do realize this is part of fantasy romance) I did enjoy the main story / forbidden monster romance. I enjoyed getting to know the main and side characters and their journey of finding and fighting the Wraiths.

I loved the bad ass female main characters who fought for what they believed in. I loved the strong male characters who lead the way even through one of them was keeping a dark secret. I loved seeing Talimier's venerability as we discovered his secret of being half wraith. I loved the fighting and battle scenes. And how the characters found their found family in the end.

I would like to give the other books in this world a chance! Especially with these books making their rounds on booktube. I'm curious to see what the story is from the main series!

I read this book for the "Friend pick prompt" for Era's Readathon hosted by thewordn3rd! A few weeks ago my really good friend who knows my reading tastes pretty well gave me a list of 5 books to choose for this prompt! I read the synopsis for this book and it instantly caught my attention!

I really didn't know what to expect from this book going in. In a lot of ways I went in blind and I'm kind of glad I did because it made the explanations so much more magical in the end. I was curious about these characters throughout this story. There are a lot of layers to this one and I enjoyed exploring each one. I really enjoyed finding out who each character is and a little bit about their history!

It was a very engaging story and I feel like I learned so much in the last quarter! But I want to know more! These characters can't be dead! I loved the world building, magical elements, and not knowing who to trust!

I definitely want to continue this series in 2024!
