I read this for my thesis since I’m focusing on Caribbean lit. This book was so sad! Also I was pleasantly surprised by all the queer rep throughout. And there’s quite a few heavy topics, themes, and events in this book. Overall, amazingly done.

I read this for my Afrofuturism class and nearly didn’t finish it because I struggle with long books but I was already 350 pages in and wanted to read a tome this year. Though it is a long, winding story, I think the way the genealogies come together is done masterfully. The little things that come up as relevant within multiple family story arcs are interesting and I enjoyed the characterization. The ending came together well, though I do have my qualms with it. All in all, a very interesting read.

I did a buddy read of this with a couple friends and it was so fun! This book really is a love letter to Black romcoms and I started tearing up towards the end. The friendships were so well done. The family dynamics were great, I love how complicated it was for both Dani and Prince. Also Prince is so respectful in the best way. This is a sweet read.

I saw a few mutuals talking about this book on Tik Tok and ended up stumbling upon it on Scribd. And let me tell you, this one had me giggling.
In truth, this was such a fun book. The world building was great and I loved the colorful cast of characters, and I mean colorful in a literal since. Now I wanna die my hair pink too and go on a mythical adventure, minus all the murders but in this context, I'll have to admit that those were pretty hot. And speaking of hot, this book brought the SPICE. Definitely recommend.

I read this for Medieval course and this rating is more about my own disinterest in medieval lit than it is about the book itself. It was really well written and stays fairly true to the original story of Silence. It was nice seeing more of Silence's inner monologue and how they handled their identity. Overall, good book, just not for me.

I read this for my thesis and once again, I’m blown away by Jamaica Kincaid’s prose. Her writing is so beautiful and this novel is incredibly layered. I love the nonlinear storytelling and how complicated Xuela is as a main character.
I’ve been meaning to read this for years since I loved the Scott Pilgrim books so much when I was younger. When I saw a copy of this at my local comic book shop, I decided to pick it up and I’m happy I did. This feels like the kind of story worth revisiting. The lessons hit well and the experimental storytelling filled with fourth wall breaks is my cup of tea.
I love these comics so much and I’m really happy they exist. They’re a sweet reminder that the dark days aren’t always but that’s it’s okay to not be okay. Also turns out the artist has an Etsy shop so I’m gonna go buy up all the pretty prints.
I read this for my Afrofuturism class and 30% in I wasn’t expecting to finish it but I decided to keep giving it a chance so I’d have something to talk about during class. Well, I finished it. Did anything stick? No.
I found this book so incredibly boring that I listened to the last 40 minutes of the audiobook on 3x speed. There were far too many info dumps and the apathy of the MC worked against it. Also, the plot was a mess.
