This is easily one of my favorite romances from this year. I loved the anxiety rep, I felt so SEEN. Also I’m a sucker for small town romance and Walker was just the perfect country boy to fall for. Aja was a great MC and I loved her inner monologue. I don’t think I’ve related to another adult romance MC the way I relate to Aja. And let’s not forget about the spice. Those scenes were a good time!

I’ve been reading quite a few graphic novels by French authors lately and I’m not mad at that. This one in particular was so moving. It’s a quick read that packs a punch.

I read this for my Afrofuturism class and enjoyed it a lot more than I was expecting to. A lot of times with these kinds of space travel books, the focus is on the astronauts and being in space. This book is all about the behind the scenes of getting into space and following Kwesi as a main character was such a great choice.

I read this for my Afrofuturism class and honestly, it was difficult to get through. The concept is interesting but this book just wasn't for me. The plot was very convoluted and there were so many characters to follow that I ended up lost for most of it.

This was a fun, quick read. I love the concept and it was executed super well. The relationship was so adorable!

I loved this book! I read it for my Afrofuturism class and ended up presenting on it so my copy is filled with annotations. The world building was so well done. I love the way Nalo Hopkinson leans into the oral storytelling tradition to create this evolving tale. There are several traumatic experiences that the MC faces but I think Hopkinson does a great job of showing that cycle of abuse and how it can be disrupted. This is an undeniably Caribbean novel and I lived every bit of it.

I read this for my Afrofuturism class and as I've mentioned a million times over, space stories generally aren't my thing. As these stories tend to be, this was convoluted and filled with a huge cast of characters. I enjoyed the adventures the team went on, even when I couldn’t remember who was who. I also really liked Grace as a narrator. Though I didn't always understand what was going on, I enjoyed the journey.

This was so good. It starts off with an interesting concept that ends up being executed super well. The romance was cute and I loved seeing the way Ella and Madeleine grow together. The story also makes sure to include friendship and the importance of good friends. It’s a great coming of age story. Highly recommend!

I randomly saw this at my local comic book shop and decided to give it a read. It was so good! I loved it and now I’m thinking this could make a perfect Christmas gift.

My only qualm is that I wish she’d mentioned indigenous and pre-colonial conceptions of nature a bit more. The author is French so that probably limited her perspective but she has done a lot of research so I’m surprised that wasn’t something that came up.

I read this for my Afrofuturism class and it was a whirlwind! I'm very picky when it comes to alien stories and I absolutely love what Octavia Butler did with this one. The world building was done amazingly. I love the way that we discover things at the same time that Lilith does. And the ending has me wanting to read the whole series.
