3.5 stars. It was SOOOO SLOW for the first half of the book and the intro to new characters and the changes in existing characters were hard to buy into at first but it set the stage for what’s to come. Rowan and Aelin’s bond was my favorite part of this book. It was a patient and beautiful friendship that has so much platonic intimacy that is hard for this author to usually achieve. I’m intrigued enough to keep reading.
Wow. This book made the 3 before it worth it. So fantastical and the action packed throughout the book instead of all being at the end. SJM made a very intricate story with this one finally bringing together so many plot lines. I could even compete with ACOMF as my fav of hers. I couldn’t put it down. I’m finally excited to read the rest of the series.
Some reviews described this book as cozy and I agree with that sentiment in a forgettable way.
I don’t think I would have enjoyed this book as much if I read it as the first in the series. (I’ve read 1-4 previously). There’s such a nativity and untouchable feeling to Celaena that would probably come across as annoying but it actually feels super necessary to who she becomes in later books. This book was also a lot more thought out than 1 and 2 with better action and fantasy and provided some really interesting and necessary backstory.
4.5 stars. I had no idea where this story was going but became so captivated. As the reader, you start to learn more than the character understands so you feel invested in them discovering their reality. Also it was believable fiction which is one of my favs.
4.5 stars! This book is so mesmerizing! I was able to really envision being on Lawki 6 with these characters, seeing new planets for the first time and discovering life but also feeling isolated by unpredictable environments. The ethical dialogue around space travel and the plight of being on a mission determined by those not on the ship was one of my favorite parts of this book.
I am pretty inspired by Paris’ story and how she was able to still be her extroverted self after all the trauma she endured. She’s a serious girl boss.
Very humanizing story. I really connected with the raw and ugly honesty.
