Having grown up watching the movie, there weren’t many surprises, mostly a fun and magical story. The unicorn scene was something I forgot from the movie that sparked a reaction for being just as creepy as my suppressed memory. Also the Dursleys came off far more abusive in the book so I felt emotional when Hagrid gave Harry a photo album of his parents at the end.
4.5 stars! Aelin regressed a little bit in the middle of the book but all of the character development for Lochan, Elide, Manon, Lysandra and Rowan really made up for it. The ending was really good too!!! Now I’m sad I have to read about Chaol before I get to KOA.
This one was more fun than the first! Only critique was how short the scene with the basilisk was. Can’t wait to continue the story.
Wretched. Miserable. Disgusting. Shocking. I am giving it 3 stars for how vividly descriptive this book is and that it can elicit such distain every time I pick it up. I kept thinking this could be some twisted hbo show that doesn’t really have a happy ending. Wouldn’t read again but oddly okay that I got through it once.
3.75 stars. This one felt repetitive of the first two and was really slow at times. The last few chapters are what really turned it around for me. There’s a lot of characters introduced that I’m sure will lead to a more intricate plot for the rest of the series.
This book is not about conventional truth but rather metaphysical truth. It had me reflecting on my own existence with every page. I am going to think about this one for a long time.
The heartache I felt from this story is palpable. Beautifully written and tragically human.
I think this book will resonate with a lot of people so take my review with a grain of salt. The mc was desperate and dramatic and honestly slightly annoying. She spent her whole life not being true to herself and finally realized she doesn’t have to live that way but took the most frustrating and inappropriate journey to learn her authentic self at the expense of the relationships around her.
P.S. this book was incredibly slow to physically read, switched to audio and it was much better.
