okay so my official rating of this is 3.5 (goodreads please let us give half stars). i really enjoyed this book! there were good parts as much as not so good. this is my first ali hazelwood novel and i can walk away saying i was not disappointed. bee as a character was one i related to as well as questioned when it came to her sometimes cringey dialogue. the science talk definitely lost me some of the time but nonetheless, i think it made it interesting too. not a lot of romance books out there about women in STEM let alone the misogyny in academia. LEVI WARD I LOVE YOU! we love a man who goes to therapy <3333

i want to start off by saying PLEASE read the trigger warnings for this book. i tried to mentally prepare myself for this book but holy hell, no amount preparation could’ve braved myself for that.

i found this book to be both tragic and also beautiful. beautiful in the way the author talks about friendship, family, and love. the friendships amongst the four main characters have their peaks and falls. nonetheless, seeing jude and willem’s friendship grow was something so genuine and wholesome. they viewed each other with so much love and respect. i felt like i knew these characters personally and like they were my friends too. tragic in terms of just the horrible events that happened. specifically with jude. at some points i found myself sobbing inconsolably over how brutal and graphic these scenes were.

i know that this book is often classified as “trauma porn” and jude’s character specifically endures heinous scenarios throughout the book. i feel like this book shows how complex trauma and retraumatization effects one’s life from childhood into adulthood. it follows you and often times becomes debilitating. especially given jude’s physical health as a result of his traumas. the author’s writing was very descriptive and just cruel there is no denying that. the ableism specifically made me sick with disgust.

overall, i did like reading this book. i wouldn’t recommend it just cause of how heavy and emotionally taxing it is

this has been one of my favorite reads of 2023 easily. it so such a fun read i found myself giggling and kicking my feet the entire time. my favorite thing about this book was how 3 dimensional and relatable the MCs felt. anastasia specifically. i found so much of myself and her personality within me. the talks of therapy, mental health, and healthy communication was GOD TIER! finally a book couple that can communicate healthily and be respectful of one another. an honorable mention to the spice in this book because it surely did not disappont. if i could live in this book i would. NATE HAWKINS YOU WILL ALWAYS BE FAMOUS!!

i docked off half a star because the book just felt a tab bit too long and the drama with aaron was a bit dragged out and plateaued for me around the 300 page mark. other than that, this was a goal in my book. i am ready to be a hockey gf now

this book is laced with something. OH MY GOSH!! this book was absolutely crazy. i loved every second of it. she had me hooked from the first sentence. the suspense and plot were perfectly timed. it didn’t feel dragged out at all. i had a hunch on the plot twist but it still shocked me. part two till the end had me on the edge of my seat. just when things couldn’t get creepier, they did. freida is a genius

if you would’ve told me a small town cowboy romance would be on my TBR, i would laugh. I ENJOYED THIS BOOK SO MUCH. the beginning made me wary. the writing was a little off and a bit cringe. but the more the plot progressed, the more the story fell into place.

rhett and summer are two halves made for each other. their banter was one of my favorite parts. they challenged each other as well as complimented one another. i love how summer found her footing and rhett did too. they both deserve the world

this was such a fun and sappy novel. i smiled with the characters as well cried with them too. the taylor swift references made me love the book even more. i enjoyed watching meredith navigate her grief alongside her family. it was realistic, relatable, and healthy. having a close relationship with my sibling myself i can’t imagine the pain of losing them. yet i could feel meredith’s angst throughout the novel. the love both platonically and romantically made my heart swell

this book was such a bittersweet read. i wept for the characters, i laughed, i smiled. it brings about the conversation of love and how complex it can be. a person you loved before it not always the person you’re set to be with and that’s okay. this is the first book i read in a long time where it ends and i feel the satisfaction that everything is tied up nicely. this is probably one of my top three by TJR along with daisy jones and seven husbands

i can confidently say this is my favorite book in the series. i love willa’s confidence and i love cade’s grumpiness. reading about willa form a bond with lucas was so heartwarming. the chemistry was undeniable and the build up between cade and willa was worth it. i found myself relating a lot to cade and his fear of heartbreak. i think when we’ve experienced deep wounded heartbreak it can leave us closed off. growing up as the responsible child myself i felt a lot of his grief about the “maybes” he had. being the eldest child is exhausting. especially when you have to grow up too fast.

all in all i think elsie silver outdid herself with this book. flawless was amazing but she really raised the bar with heartless. this series has crack in it and i thank elsie for her service

i really enjoyed my time with this book. i loved the innocence and naiveté of watching macy and elliot grow up. they complimented each other and had such a deep understanding and fondness of one another. i resonated a lot with macy’s grief. how she often closed herself off. i liked that she found elliot and was able to find peace in her closet reading books with him. this was such a bittersweet read and i’m so glad i got to finally read this
