elif batuman’s writing is truly unmatched. this felt like the deepest dive into selin’s mind throughout her sophomore year at harvard finally free from the trauma and guilt from her situationship with ivan. such a great exploration of her growth and the new experiences, people, and places she finds. i love selin and am so glad she finally found some semblance of peace and purpose outside of her freshman year and ivan!

This was a really interesting premise and I think it was executed very well. Klara’s experience among humans and her exploration of human nature were moving and complex and so enjoyable but there are certain aspects of this book which remain unclear. I guess that makes sense considering the fact Klara’s POV limits us to what she’s able to deduce from her time with Josie but I wish there would have been more about the concept of “lifted” kids and the resistance people have towards artificial friends and advanced technology.

LOVED THIS. Revolution is messy and to anyone who finds themselves criticizing this book for its messiness or its ending completely missed the point. My one complaint, as crazy as it sounds, is that there should have been more. I felt around 70% the beginning of the big conflict felt a bit rushed but no notes aside from that. The characters, the politics, the history, the institution, all perfect no notes!
