loved it, the ending had my jaw dropping more and more, i do however wish we had a more closed ending as opposed to an open one.
first murder mystery of the year and it had me ON MY TOESSS, i couldn’t figure it out the entire time and usually i can, i had my hunches but nothing could’ve prepared me for that ending.
all and all, loved it!

This was truly such a cute and easily digestible book.
The author made the writing feel so smooth and gave each character good personalities. Coal had great character progression and i absolutely loved that, even when she almost gave the redemption arc to the dad.
Romance isn't something i tend to read often, but this book had me hooked from the very beginning and i rarely ever wanted to put it down. I loved loved loved it and i can't wait for the second installment!

all and all, i would recommend this book if you're looking for a slow intimate book. I was not surprised by how abrupt the death for Mateo, considering death is unpredictable and can happen anytime and place and there is no way for you to prepare for it.
The emotion really only started to hit for me at the end when all was said and done, i didn't much care for the side stories and how it sort of took away from the main characters and i feel didn't add much to the story for me, it just took me away from the emotion of the main two.
3.5 stars because it became boring and repetitive, but i really loved how the story could have gone.

this was a very captivating and thrilling book, it was my first stephen king novel and i thoroughly enjoyed my time reading it.
i fear my only criticism is it felt a little drawn out towards the end but wasn't too bad.
thank you stephen king for writing some of the best horror novels, had my scared to look under my bed.

ughh i loved the story, it kept me engaged the entire time and didn't drag out much of anything which made for an easy read.
definitely a good book for older teens or people who love romance but don't want smut scenes shoved down their throats.
not much else to add other than i genuinely enjoyed the book.

this book truly through me for a loop, i never suspected 'Bea' to be the main perpetrator of the story, and i am usually fairly good at calling plot twist, this and another phenomenal read 'The Silent Patient' have been the only books to really be able to completely flip me on my head and say "what the fuck" out loud.
I had a bit of a burnout while reading this book so it did take me awhile, but i was completely immersed by the story and the writing when i was reading it.
Thriller/Murder Mysteries tend to be my favorite book genres' and Mary Kubica did a phenomenal job at capturing both the thrill and the emotion behind such heavy topics and grey areas.
This has been the only book i've rated with 5 stars this year, and its rightly deserved.

this book literally put into perspective how it feels to constantly be stuck in your own head and trying to find solace in the world around you, but everything is too loud and you get lost in the sound, and you fall apart. then suddenly everything starts to fall in place and you realize this place isn’t so bad.

After reading both books i can officially say i probably wouldn't recommend this to anyone i personally know.
The whole "i want him but i hate myself for it" got old fast, i understand there is a moral dilemma Adeline is faced with but we were at the last 2 chapters and she still continued on with the dilemma.
I also got very tired of just how much smut is in this book, i would've loved to see more humanity given to Zades character as apposed to his constant sexual remarks. It's his dynamic im aware, but i feel like the relationship could've been handled with a lot more intention.
Now i don't like Zade, he was a hypocrite who shamed men for raping and hurting innocent lives while simultaneously destroying the life of the women he claimed he loved. The rape scene in the first book was extremely unnecessary, this book would've been much better without the looming disgust i had knowing he took advantage off a woman just because he assumed her body was giving him the go ahead. I understand this is dark romance, but rape scenes that are turned around to her enjoying them made me feel gross.
Let's also talk about how entirely insensitive Zade was the moment Adeline was back at Parson's Manor, constantly making sexual remarks about her as if she hadn't been sexualized enough by the men who abused her body.
And the way the author just makes Adeline take the abuse genuinely had me questioning how someone could even write this, i feel like the author did not give Adeline enough time to process what happened, and just decided "hey a good fuck from Zade will do the trick!"
The way Zade handled the entire situation made mt heart break for Adeline as if this was a real women, although he told her many times that he wouldn't do anything she didn't want him to do it sounds unbelievable. All of the trauma she endured was seemingly just cured by sex and it was really disheartening to read.
During the middle part of the book when "the culling" was re-done and Zade pleasured Adeline in front of her rapist was actually appalling, i nearly DNF'ed it right then and there because it felt just so sick. I understand the implication but i also feel it was unnecessary once again.
Majority of the smut scene's are indeed unnecessary and by the end i found myself skipping through most of the smut because it was literally every other page and it just got exhausting. I get it, he's got a big dick.
Also cringe at the fact he thinks of himself as a God, like please take the god complex out of your ass it made me want to throw my head into the wall.
Finally, the book just got boring at the end, i feel like this could've been a lot shorter of a read had the smut been rallied back a bit, but hey to each their own. Personally i would've appreciated less sex and more empathy come from Zade but i guess you can't expect that from a stalker/rapist.
So a solid 2/5 because although it had some good moments, my desire to read was lost the moment the plot turned to forced smut to make the book longer. The only part of this book that caused me a dilemma was Rio's story, i felt that. His story was written well and i wish the rest of the book was just as compelling.
