This was really entertaining in some parts. I didn’t think I’d enjoy reading about Snow’s life as much as I did, and to watch his personality become the corrupted person we know him to be was interesting. However, I think this book was way too long, and could have achieved the same outcome in 100 less pages. It also got a little mundane in sections. A solid book though and it was great to learn some more about Panem. Triggers listed below.
TW: snakes, suicide ideation, snakes, alcohol, animal abuse, animal death, cannibalism(mention of), body horror, death, eating disorder, poverty, rabies, starvation (mention of), torture, violence, hanging

I can’t say I enjoyed this one as much as the first two, and I think it’s down to their being no Games in this one. It’s all about war, and had a very dreary tone throughout. I also don’t think the book lingered on any character deaths enough, and therefore we didn’t really feel the impact, or have a chance to mourn for them. Still a solid book that kept me entertained throughout, I just wish Collins allowed for a little humour/happiness to seep through now and again.
Trigger warnings below…
TW: PTSD, talk of therapy, hospitals, gore, violence, death, prostitution, bombs, medication

Wilder Girls is a very immersive queer read that I could not put down. We follow three friends at an all girls boarding school (Hetty, Byatt + Reese), on a secluded island known as Raxter. Everyone on this island has the “Tox”, a kind of disease that slowly changes your body in horrific ways (leading to death in some cases). When Byatt has a flare up and shortly goes missing, we learn more about the tox and follow Hetty and Reese as they try to unravel the mystery.
Ok what I loved about this book was the ATMOSPHERE. It was gory and some scenes made me wince in disgust. The description were very well done. The friendships and the romance are messy, which suited the book really well. The reason this was a 3 star is because of how frustrated I was at the ending. If you’re not bothered about open endings, you’ll probably enjoy this! However, I felt like we’d gone in this huge journey only to be left with questions

I absolutely love Jack. And I have a love/hate relationship with Sumi - I find her INCREDIBLY annoying but she’s so quirky that you can’t help but warm to her
This was a great read! The author makes a point that she hasn’t simply written stories with women, in the place of men. She states these stories already exist in cultures all around the world. She also states that she removed marriage at the end of each story because it’s unnecessary! I think this is wonderful book for kids to read. It provides a wonderful insight into the strength of girls, and that they can exist within fairytales without needing to be saved.
This one was my least favourite of the series. I’m not sure why, I just didn’t enjoy it as much. Still a great read though and I adore the characters and their sisterly bond.
Great edition to the Grishaverse. A really quick read that provides further insight into this amazing world.
