Serena had an accident. One that not only had physical repercussions but also mental ones. Serena now has visions that she can't control. Visions that catch the attention of two opposing mythical groups.

I have never gone from enjoying a book to absolutely hating it so quickly. This book starts out with Serena meeting Silas(her bodyguard) after an attack and learning that there are vampires after her. While the two of them are figuring out their dynamic its really interesting. And then they figure it out and it goes downhill fast.

At the beginning, Serena was struggling with understanding what was going on and coming to terms with the new world around her. But once she gets with Silas she just doesn't seem to care anymore. It's like her character just changes. Silas's character doesn't but that's more because his character is all about protecting Serena.  So the characters in the book are really subpar.

As for the actual story, there wasn't much to it. The vampires want Serena for her visions but it is never established as to why. Also, we get lots of lore about Silas's people that seems completely unnecessary. I did really enjoy the ending of the book but I don't think I'll read the rest of the series.

An oil rig's plans to go beyond the limits of its drill has massive consequences. Now the world is being overwhelmed with monsters that have emerged from below the Earth's crust. It is up to one man to save the earth.

Or at least that's what the book is supposed to be about. Instead, this book is about a man who is excessively horny for seemingly no reason and somehow has to save the world. He now knows everything about the monsters and he's going to save the earth if he can get himself under control. Also halfway through the perspective starts changing for no reason.

Overall, this book was really disappointing and the characters were lackluster. It was a funny time though.

Has gene research gone too far? Is it ethical to patent part of the human genome? Is slavery coming back in terms of gene lines? All this and more are discussed in this science fiction novel.

The first half of this book is extremely confusing. This is because of the amount of characters that are in this book. The scientific concepts are extremely interesting and I can see a lot of the issues discussed in this book happening today. Eventually, everyone's stories come together and everything starts to make sense. But overall none of the characters are particularly interesting. The discussion of science is really the strong point in this book.

A princess who loves soup, a mouse who loves a princess, a rat who loves the light, and a servant who wants to be a princess.

This book was so strange that I loved it. The discussions of family and grief were really interesting. I did listen to this as an audiobook and really enjoyed it.

Overall, super glad that I finally read this book.

A cemetery that can bring pets back to life. It seems like a joke but not for the Creed family. When they move to their new home next to a busy street, the Creed family has to deal with the looming threat of the Pet Sematary in their backyard. And it may be more than the Creed family can handle.

This book starts off extremely slowly. There is a great amount of set-up for the rest of the events in the novel. Pet Sematary focuses less on the horror aspect of the cemetery and instead focuses on grief. In that way, I thought that this book was very good but slow with the rising action happening extremely late in the book.

Overall, it was a good book in terms of the depictions of grief but in the case of a horror book, it was a bit of a letdown.

The dragon is reborn but it's not clear who it is. Now a group of farmers have to travel across the kingdom to seek the help of the mysterious Aes Sedai.

This book starts out a little slow with introducing the world and the characters but it picks up after the first couple of chapters. (Though the chapters are very long so.) The characters felt very real and made very human mistakes. The magic was also very interesting though I hope that in the next book goes further into how the magic works.

I will say that the beginning of this book is similar to the first season of the show but the second half of the book is mostly different. The book is much slower than the show so keep that in mind.

Overall, really interesting story and I'm excited to read more.

Has this author ever met an eleven-year-old girl? Because I don't think he has.

This is a book about young Flavia de Luce and her attempt to solve a murder. The biggest problem with this book is the main character. Flavia is an eleven-year-old who is obsessed with chemistry and has no emotions. She doesn't care about her family or other people but she does care about long-dead people who contributed to chemistry. Flavia also makes the stupidest connections because she doesn't understand human interaction. All of this would be fine if it was explained at all and Flavia wasn't presented as a normal girl, ish. I didn't care about any of the characters and I figured out the mystery halfway through.

Honestly, I was so excited for this book but it was just a big let down. If you read other reviews and this book sounds good then give it a go but be warned.

What if ghosts are real? What if spilled blood has more power than we know? What if the author doesn't know what Southern Gothic is?

This book follows our main character's journey to unleash the soul resin, something he believes is an untapped energy resource. Sounds great right? It would be if this book focused on that journey and how the blood worked. Instead this book mostly reads like a history book about New Orleans directly after the Civil War. A time period that only affects one character and takes up half of the book. I think it was meant to all connect but honestly it didn't make a lot of sense within the story. Especially since it seemed to have no merit on any character in the present or the soul resin itself. There were some twists in this book but they were all easy to see a mile away. There was also very little discussion of any of the many themes that make Southern Gothic what it is.

Overall, this book was a major let down.
