The Girl Who Played with Fire by Stieg Larsson

I really enjoyed this one. I picked it up in a used bookstore while visiting family this past weekend. I read it on the plane home. Good twists and turns and it keeps your attention easier than the first one. Lost track of characters at one point, but managed to follow along just fine.

At first I didn't really care too much for it, but the further into I read, the more I found myself enthralled. I liked that the story was told from the viewpoint of the boy. Intriguing story.
Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
It has taken me years to finally read this. It was an exceedingly slow read for me...I would read sections and literally fall asleep. Toward the end, it felt like I was reading Desperate and Real Housewives of Old Russia. It was an excellent book and while tragic; shows the fragility of the human spirit and how love can make and/or break you.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
I really enjoyed the first half of the book. Very well written, kind of creepy and very psychologically intriguing. I wasn't quite sure what it was about and was pleasantly surprised at how quickly it sucked me in. The second half kind of fell off a bit for me. It felt rushed a bit and frenzied. I didn't realize that the author was planning this as a series, so it left me wanting more. I'm definitely curious to read the next one whenever it comes out.

This took me three attempts to actually slog through. The first half was hard to get through the mundane details. Once you push past the details, the story gets better. I don't usually read crime novels, so it was a refreshing change. A few good twists in it. :)

I liked the fact that both main characters were completely flawed. There was no true hero or true villain in the story (although, one was more villainous than the other, IMO). I accidentally read the ending before the beginning (thank you, e-readers), but went back and read the whole story. It was a good plot-twister.
