I really can’t complain about this. It’s a short, well recorded audio play. As in the quality of the voices and sound. For a 90 minute piece of work, it handles its characters with a modest amount of deftness and fun, shoots high at some targets and falls short but not to a point of dissatisfaction. Like, you can do a heck of a lot worse with your time. If this was say…double the length? Different story. It’s nice as it is.

I won’t say anything that others have already said, I’m sure. This book was absolutely instrumental in helping me discover a large amount of my own personal needs in handling my CPTSD and ADHD. Problematic in a few places (lots of war stories. Like, a lot and not in good ways all the time) but it hits the mark where it counts in the history it provides, the science behind it, and everything in between.

This is a ROUGH 6/10. The premise of the book is strong but the main character is completely unlikeable and at times completely insufferable. And not in ways that evoke a strong emotion but one that made me think “I kinda don’t care about this character.” There are numerous excellent scenarios and points and messages in the book but the path to getting to them is fraught with trite nonsense and a glaringly weak protagonist. I’m quite thankful I listen to books at increased speed for ones like this.
