This book is soooo repetitive and does much more telling than showing. It makes it hard to get into. Also, the characters are so surface level there was just nothing to them.
This book had a few promises, the primary one being that he’s her boss. That was straight up not true lol. Aside from that, I also listened to the audiobook version of this and the performance was alright but the audio quality for one of the voice actors was just bad. Overall, the story was lacking and I truly wish I hadn’t wasted my time.
This one started reeeeeeally slow. I actually picked it up and put it down three times in the first 50 or so pages before finally just powering through to finish it. After getting through the set up, it did turn out to be very good and I’m glad I read it. It was a little plfeustrating at times how much the characters talked about what they were going to do next and went back and forth for pages… It was definitely sexy though. Like damn. Parts of this book were hottttt. The end suffered from the same forced “third act breakup” a lot of romcoms do. It didn’t exactly seem like something the character would do and honestly felt like a lazy way to create the tension necessary for the last part of the book. There were a few things they could have done instead of that like brought Jamie’s family back into to cause problems, had Jamie and his shitty roommate have more of a falling out, etc <\spoiler> But over all it was alright. I might read it again in a few years, so it gets three stars!
I listened to the audiobook when it first came out and I just didn’t connect with this one like I did the first two books in the series. I want to revisit it and read the physical copy that I have because I really enjoy the world and loved the first two books. When I first read this one it felt a little drawn out, like there was a lot of unnecessary filler. Hopefully it will be an easier read than it was a listen when I get back to it!
This book was generally ok. I listened to the audiobook and loved the voice actor. However it really seemed like nothing…. Happened. A chunk of this book had the usual miscommunication trope where if the characters had just had a frank concerstion it would have been half as long. It took me about 6 weeks to get through as there just wasn’t much that really pulled me in. It was well written though so I think this was just a matter of taste. I would recommend this book for anyone who prefers to read easy to read romcoms and doesn’t mind looking past a little under developed characters.
Really slow read, barely able to finish. Also, book includes (something that should have been part of the summary but was only included in a hidden tw list, miscarriage. The mc was depressed and obsessed about it most of the book. I don’t think I’ll continue the series, just a little too slow for me right now!
Great book! All the characters were well written and the romance is steamy AF. It seems to set up the rest of the series very well and I’m def gonna pick up the next one of KU… now. The relationship built naturally in a way that felt realistic (as much as a spicy romance book ever can). I’m a little obsessed with all of Cole’s series and this one is no different.
