The book was fairly good, i liked how it was kind of a memorial hidden inside a novel.

Mesmerising, the writing is so lyrical and profound. Even if it-s slow paced it keeps your attention till the very end. One of my favourite books of all time.

I devoured this book in a couple of hours, so fast paced and interesting.
It really gives you an insight into the life and struggles of women in South Korea.
The story covers the entire life of the main character and the many ways she encountered gender discrimination, how it is intertwined in even the most frugal daily activities.
Most interestingly the 1ps point of view makes you understand how deeply rooted in the culture is misogyny, to the point it feels normal to both women and men. The way Jiyoung slowly realises how the feeling of something being out of place she always had in the back of her mind is misogyny, felt so real and left me speechless.

I had such great exceptions for this book.
I’ve always been avid fan of Greek mythology and I was really invested in the story of Achilles and Patroclus.
when I heard about this book I hope it would finally give justice to what I felt was a great love story between these two men, that they would finally get the space in literature they deserve.
However I was really disappointed by the writing.
The writer wasn’t able to keep me invested in the storyline and didn’t make me feel anything for the characters. I didn’t care for them and their lives.
Even the tragic ending was just meh.
Maybe my expectations were to high? I don’t know but the story had great premise and it failed to deliver.
