The Midnight Library by Matt Haig
4.0
thank you, matt haig, for writing such an awe-inspiring, empathetic novel. to me, this book might’ve been the midnight library as it was to nora; it made me want to live a little longer, and no longer do i mourn lost opportunities.
edit: a more in-depth review.
i’m writing this sometime after i’ve finished reading this book, and needless to say, nora’s story still lingers in my mind.
i can see why people might think this book is boring — it is mundane, soulless, repetitive. but to me, this book was a love letter.
major TW for suicide.
as someone with clinical depression, nora’s journey tore at my heartstrings. her feelings were not exaggerated or glamorized. her illness and suicidal ideation was written just as it is — horrifically, morbidly mundane.
this book is unforgettable. it is uneventful in every sense yet so beautifully melancholic, like life itself. it gave me much needed closure, and i hope it does for you, too.

i kind of hated this book but i also couldn’t put it down so… there we go. the premise is perfect but the execution? just terrible.
