i cannot explain the plethora of emotions i felt reading this book. it’s structured wonderfully, and the prose and wordplay are breathtaking.

even halfway into the book, i was sure the subject matter would stop me from giving it more than 3 stars, but i was wrong, and dolores haze has become one of my all-time favorite characters. i’m so attached to her, and it is unbelievable to me that people who have read ‘lolita’ consider her to be of blame.

humbert humbert is a despicable man, and i had to stop reading so many times because of how vile he is— he’s unforgivable, and i simply cannot comprehend people pitying him or thinking dolores ‘seduced’ him.

i decided to read this book after reading an article on lolita’s influence on mainstream pop culture, and i’m so glad i picked this up. i do not think this book justifies men like humbert, it is rather evident dolores is only a child and so much of the narration is just humbert’s revolting fantasy.
