I really liked the book, I saw the movie so a lot of it was very familiar which took away a lot of the suspense. However, the story was much more vivid and made you want to hope for everyone involved. It was a bitter sweet ending. Good soup.
I’m giving it four stars, but I did have a few problems with it - however still such a fun read and the story was compelling, but very humorous. Definitely a read to get you in a good mood.
I’m not going to write a full review cause I’ll jot my notes down in my journal when I actually come down from this book, but it was beautiful. That’s all I’ll say, it was simply beautiful.
It was a very good read, I enjoyed the madness - honestly it was a little silly. All of the main characters were very interesting I think each of them would do well with their own stories told. The ending was great I’m very happy with the way it ended, tragically “beautiful”. My main gripe, which is why I gave it a 3.75 instead of a solid 4, was how some of the monologues were just a bit too drawn out. I know the flowery language was how the stories were written back then, and no one can disagree that the writing is beautiful. But it just feels like the writer could have avoided a lot of the over explanation. So even tho it was a quick read, I found myself putting it down quite often due to how repetitive it often felt. Still I enjoyed it!
Glad I gave this book a re-read. Mr. King is nuts, his world building is done so well. You can easily imagine all of the scenes. King is also a very good story teller, the development of one of the characters was done so well; great foreshadowing and the characters really pop out of the book. My main critique in most of King’s older books is the use of black characters; the magical n* and the horrible racism they have to endure. It’s very upsetting; not for everyone.
