The Outlands by Tyler Edwards

Bit of a mixed basket. We never even go to the Outlands :-(
The main character was very annoyingly rash. And then the one time taking action was the right thing to do, he didn't.
I predicted a couple of the plot twists, but the two main ones were a complete surprise. Honestly, those plot twists had me gagged and they're the reason for the high rating.
Concerning the writing: it could have used a little more editing. The writer continually switches between tenses. He uses some sayings wrong. There's also grammar and punctuation issues. Some of the worldbuilding is unclear First it's said the "winners" of the Lottery get to choose their punishment, then it's said the population gets to vote what the punishment will be. Spike's accent is not only irritating, it's also not consistent: in some places he says "da" and "den", in other places he says "the" and "then". The commander's disdain for the Undesirables was soooo unsubtle.

Took the whole "teachers are boring" thing a bit far, but a fun and interesting read overall.

Definitely couldn't put this down. Not as devastating as everybody says although Ampert was pretty bad and all the cameos felt a bit much. But all in all, a good new installment.

Not only fun, it adressed a lot of facts about human thinking that I'd considered before.

Very deep and moving. It's definitely a slow book to really sit down with and digest.

Always a fun read. Of course, not always as historically accurate or objective, but it's definitely still education and entertaining

Maybe it's just me, but I had no idea what the point was of all this. I think it's partly because of the long, convoluted sentences.
