3 ⭐️ A sweet and sexy addition in the Monstrous World series

My Thoughts:

I really enjoyed the story overall. It's heartfelt, fun, deep, and sexy - so if you like a story that can make you feel, this is a good one.

I LOVED the MCs, Petra and Reed. Both characters have been through so much shit, and in this story we get to witness them help each other heal.

2.5 ⭐️ I can see why people might love this story, but it wasn't for me

"One thing," she whispered, her lips by his jaw.
"What's that?"
"Stop writing about me."
In a voice both raspy and low, and so, so familiar, Shane said, "You first."

WHAT TO EXPECT:
✨ contemporary romance
✨ NYC setting
✨ second chance
✨ they're both writers
✨ single mother
✨ invisible chronic illness rep
✨ flashbacks
✨ TW: sexual assault (past), underage sex, drug/alcohol/substance abuse, self harm, suicide

My Thoughts:

So here’s the thing, this book is well written, the characters are three dimensional, and the story is interesting. However, I just didn't really enjoy the story.

While present day Shane and Eva have amazing chemistry, with feisty banter and juicy tension, younger Shane and Eva were a hot mess I could not get on board with. This is a second chance romance where we're meant to believe they are soulmates, however I felt like the foundation of their romance was codependency presented as love so when they get a second chance, they’re really just connected because of past shared trauma bonding. I know it's a lot more nuanced than that but I just can't get behind their initial meeting/romance.

We're supposed to believe they have soulmate level love but soulmates would be able to communicate and wouldn't give up on the other when things get hard. It just seems like this story romanticizes an unhealthy relationship and I can't get over that.

I will admit, I am triggered by contemporary stories with addiction since I grew up in a home where this was an issue. I had no idea that was a key element to this story, and went into this unaware. That may be a big reason why I view their romance as unhealthy instead of romantic.

3 ⭐️ It had its moment

"If I can't stand you, then why has my only thought of every minute of every day for the last week been me wondering what it would feel like to fuck you?"

WHAT TO EXPECT:
✨ contemporary romance
✨ he's a cocky, hockey player superstar
✨ she's a flight attendant on his team’ private plane

✨ hate to love
✨ forbidden romance
✨ "one night only"
✨ he falls first and hard
✨ height difference
✨ 3/5 spice (open door and explicit)
✨ entertaining banter
✨ curvy FMC
✨ family drama
✨ found family
✨ POC rep
✨ TW: body image issues, emotionally abusive ex, panic attacks, mommy and daddy issues, abandonment issues

My Thoughts:

I like the writing, the banter, and the smut. It wasn’t a bad story. But it felt like a never ending therapy session.

2.5 ⭐️ It had a few cute and spicy moments

WHAT TO EXPECT:
✨ alien romance
✨ mars needs women trope
✨ willing mail order brides
✨ she’s a human on the run
✨ he’s an alien in a penal colony
✨ chatty x silent
✨ virgin MMC
✨ eventual smut
✨ 2.5/5

3 ⭐️ This is a silly, sweet, and sexy story

Your Coffin Or Mine is not meant to be taken seriously. It's a little (well . . . a lot) ridiculous, the FMC can be immature, and there’s more than a few cringy words/moments. But it’s a decent book if you’re in a silly-goofy paranormal rom-com mood. So go into it with zero expectations and just have fun.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
✨ monster rom-com
✨ vampires, werewolves, and other creatures
✨ he’s an ancient vampire (Dracula) who reluctantly opens his castle as a hotel
✨ she’s a human social media influencer fresh off a breakup who stays at his castle
✨ grumpy x sunshine
✨ bad first impression
✨ dislike to love
✨ fighting feelings
✨ he hates everyone but her
✨ 3/5

2.5 ⭐️ Definitely entertaining to listen to on a drive, but it wasn’t my favorite Tessa Bailey book.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
✨ contemporary rom-com
✨ Charleston setting
✨ jilted groom x getaway car girl
✨ he's a jilted groom and the lead mayoral candidate of Charleston
✨ she's the bride's estranged cousin and the one who drives the getaway car
✨ insta-love for her
✨ insta-lust for him
✨ strangers to friends to lovers
✨ temporary 'roommates'
✨ MISCOMMUNICATION
✨ denial of feelings
✨ third act breakup
✨ happily ever after
✨ political drama
✨ TW: left at the altar, near death experience

My Thoughts:

So I listened to the audiobook, and it had its moments. I enjoyed mostly everything leading up to when Addison and Elijah finally got together. But then, it went downhill for me. I always go into a Tessa Bailey book knowing I’ll either love the smut or hate it. And unfortunately, these sex scenes were not for me. I didn't mind what they did (FYI she sticks her finger up his peach). But I just didn't like the cringy dirty talk or descriptors used.

Also, Addison straight up falls for Elijah the minute she sees him at the wedding. Like, dead ass in love because he's hot. That's batshit crazy. And then Elijah is unwilling to acknowledge what he feels for Addisons is love for the dumbest reason. This denial of feelings got really old really fast.

I wish I read this book instead of listened to the audiobook. The female narrator's voice was annoying in general, and so whiney and breathy during sex scenes that I had a perpetual look of horror on my face when I was listening. And the southern accent of the male narrator wasn’t my favorite. It did not match the voice I would have imagined.

4.75 ⭐️ Trust me, this book is worth the hype!

"I am the thing that exists on the other side of the dark. I'm the thing that puts the fear of the gods into the monsters who would eat you bones and all."

WHAT TO EXPECT:
✨ gritty romantasy
✨ humans, fae, vampires, gods, magic, fates
✨ she's a human with a secret gift
✨ he's a tattooed, damaged and dangerous fae shadow daddy
✨ bargains and oaths
✨ hate to love
✨ forced proximity
✨ delicious banter
✨ lots of lust and sexual tension
✨ 3.5/5 spice (open door, explicit)
✨ "she's mine"
✨ badass FMC
✨ grumpy MMC
✨ found family
✨ shocking twists and turns
✨ minor cliffhanger that sets up for book 2
✨ TW: war, violence, gore, torture, mentions of SA
✨ single POV

My Thoughts:

I have not enjoyed a lot of of the popular romantasy book recommendations lately, so I am pleased to say that this was fucking fantastic!

Okay, so what did I like about this story???

The world-building and magic system is intriguing. It all felt familiar in the sense that if you dabble in the fantasy or paranormal genres, you've probably read plenty of stories with fae, vampires, gods, portal magic, etc. However, this was done in a unique way so it felt like a fresh concept. I don't want to say anything more because it would spoil things, but I am curious to learn more about the Quicksilver and dive deeper into the politics of these worlds and other forms of magic.

Saeris Fane is a breath of fresh air. She is strong-willed, scrappy, straight-forward, and persistent: a survivor. Since Saeris is the main character in a world with magic, she does have a secret gift that gets explored throughout the story, but it's developed in a realistic way. Yes, Saeris is unique, special, and powerful, but not in the obnoxious 'Chosen One' sort of way that's been repeatedly done. I also liked how she can be snarky and sassy at times without coming off as immature. Saeris is definitely one of my favorite FMCs and I'm so excited to see how her character develops in book 2!

Kingfisher. Powerful, intimidating, dangerous, and, of course, sexy. At first, I really hated him.

I was lucky enough to alpha read for this and let me just say that y’all are not ready!!!!!!

4 ⭐️ This is my favorite Meghan Quinn book so far

WHAT TO EXPECT:
✨ rockstar romance
✨ small town setting
✨ hate to love
✨ blackmail
✨ boss x employee
✨ forced proximity
✨ grumpy x sunshine
✨ brother's (ex) best friend
✨ forbidden romance
✨ age gap (12 years)
✨ secret relationship
✨ cheeky banter
✨ angsty
✨ 3.5/5 spice (open door, explicit)
✨ healing journey
✨ no cheating
✨ painful third act breakup
✨ HEA
✨ dual POV / dual narration
✨ TW: death of family member (past), grief, abandonment,

My Thoughts:

First off, Teddy Hamilton and Vanessa Edwin are fantastic narrators! There's a lot of emotions going on throughout the story, and they were able to capture them perfectly. The sad moments were gutting, the happy moments were fun, and the sexy moments were hot! They both did an excellent job. 5-stars for the narration.

I loved this book! There's so much depth to the characters and this story. Both Hattie and Hayes are lost and together, they embark on beautiful journeys full of healing and self discovery. I really liked that the romance truly was a hate-to-love situation and their relationship develops in a very realistic way. The tension and banter between these two is insane, and the spice was scorching!
