Layla by Colleen Hoover

This was my first CoHo and wow, I absolutely loved it. I’ve read some reviews saying this was not the best book by Hoover which makes me just want to go and read them all!

I had no idea what the story entailed but I was not expecting a paranormal story! When Layla and Leeds meet they have an instant connection, I was obsessed with their relationship from the get go and I felt the instant connection to these characters which felt so real.

When a terrible accident nearly claims Layla’s life, Leeds surprises her with a trip back to where they first met, what should of been a romantic break turns into a paranormal nightmare with a HUGE twist that I did not see coming!

The paranormal concept was so different and something I feel like this book is one of my top reads for 2021 easily! It’s captivating, unique and addictive, I just had to keep reading to see what would happen next. I’m so excited to read another CoHo!

I was worried about this book not living up to the hype that surrounds it, what was I worried about?! It was great!

The book begins with Mariana who is mourning the loss of her husband Sebastian. A tragic disappearance at Cambridge University turns out to be a friend of Mariana’s niece, Zoe. The story explodes from there involving suspicious professors, students and numerous twists!

The setting was one I am familiar with having visited Cambridge a few times I was connected and taken by this story straight away. There were so many red herrings in this book, which kept me guessing throughout! I love the feeling of being confident in my guesses and then having them completely destroyed by the story! I appreciated the nod to the Greek mythology, it was really different and allowed the story to take on a whole new angle! The Maidens was captivating, different and a really exciting read. It was a great psychological thriller and I’m hoping for more novels from Alex Michaelides.

This was quite possibly one of the most unexpected books I’ve ever read. The story is told from the POV of Fiona and extracts from a word document written by her husband, Bram. At first I was like word document? WHAT? However after a few chapters I was obsessed with this word document and Bram’s fraudulent confessions!

The story begins when Fi returns home from a weekend away with a new partner to find strangers moving into her house, Bram is no where to be seen and she can’t find her children. The plot unfolds from here, no spoilers but I will say I was gripped by this book I read it within 2 days and there are so incredible twists and turns I did not see coming!

Evelyn Hugo is a beautiful 50s Hollywood icon and after being in the public eye and the centre of gossip and speculation for years she’s finally ready to tell the truth about her life! That’s all I’m going to say! No Spoilers! You just have to read this, it was beautiful, captivating and emotional. I really wish I could read this again for the first time.
I'm a Therapist, and My Patient is In Love with a Pedophile: 6 Patient Files From Prison by Dr. Harper

A perfect sequel for the first book, I was instantly gripped and slipped straight back into the story where I’m guessing what is going to happen next, they are so far fetched but I can’t stop reading the series, I’ve purchased the next book already! I loved the prison setting and the characters in this and found myself laughing at points! It’s a twisted humour which I must admit I’d quite enjoyed!

This book is quite a quick read with a lot of twists, I would recommend however they are very unlikely and to be taken as just fiction but sometimes it seemed pretty realistic!
I'm a Therapist, and My Patient is Going to be the Next School Shooter by Dr. Harper

I read 60% of this book in one night! I couldn’t put it down! The story begins with the therapist explaining they will be sharing 6 patient files which all link to Patient #220 who ‘ruined someone’s life forever.’ By this very first page I was hooked!

The story then begins telling the first patient file, The School Shooter. I found the writing style interesting, along with telling the story we hear a lot of Dr Harper’s (often straight to the point) train of thought. I found this even more intriguing as the further into the case file, the more tense I felt! I was desperate to know what happened at the end of each case!

Eventually we learn all the cases link together with a HUGE twist (sorry, now you all know there’s a twist, but it was pretty obvious with a book like this, right?!) It’s pretty far fetched but it will keep you on the edge of your seat!

I can’t wait to finish the rest of the series

I was so excited but sad to wrap up the series with this book but it just seemed like Dr Harper had run out of ideas and picked out the most far-fetched ones! I was excited for a ‘Fyre Festival’ type disaster and we all know what social media influencers can be like so I was expecting some epic patient files! However it just fell flat for me, the characters and story line seemed a bit all over the place. I wish that the story of James was elaborated on and I would of liked to have seen that relationship built on, especially with Noah and Elliott. At first I really liked Elliott’s no nonsense attitude but by the middle of this book I was so over it, everything I initially liked just seemed petulant and boring!

Overall I enjoyed this series, it was a different read and I really hope Dr Harper is working on more books! I would recommend, book 1 was definitely my fav!

A trip to the beach leads to a tragic accident resulting in the death of a child. The story follows multiple families and investigating police officers whilst they try and unravel the twisted web of lies to get to the truth!

This story is so much more than a thrilling read, it’s a rollercoaster of emotion and every time I thought I knew where it was going, it threw me off into another direction. I felt gripped throughout the whole book and even a bit emosh at times, the ending was incredible!

I can’t thank Gary enough for sending me an e-copy of his debut book, someone get him a publisher!

An easy 5 star read!
