I really enjoyed the twist in this one! It caught me very off guard because I was expecting something completely different to happen. I honestly think my favorite thing about Frieda is that her chapters are unbelievably short lol. It has a way of drawing me in and keeps me reading. The suspense/mystery in this one is a lot better than her other books i've read (I finished this one in one sitting), but her writing is a bit juvenile. If you can get past this, then I think you'll enjoy it! Just don't go in expecting super descriptive writing or complex sentences and you'll be fine.

I really like the general idea of this book, but there were a few things that brought the rating down for me - one being the lack of world building. There was very minimal world building, which lead to confusion later on in the story when new courts/characters popped up out of nowhere. I was having trouble understanding how everything fit together. Another, this book was somehow super fast paced and also slow paced at the same time? The passage of time caught me very off guard throughout - I would think that only a day or two had passed and then it turned out to be weeks. Also, all of Aelia's chapters are written in first person, while Caiden and Tharan's are written in third which slightly bothered me, but not a deal breaker! The love story in this one is different than usual, Aelia is stuck between two mmc's (not always a bad thing hehe). I have a clear favorite and *hint hint* it's not the one you initially think

wow wow wow. this book was such a beautiful exploration of growth, depression, and healing. Nesta went from being one of my least favorites to one of my favorites! her journey was so painful but also super relatable as well. i know she gets a lot of hate, and what she did was not right, but i have been where nesta was at the beginning of this book and her journey was so inspiring.

this book was definitely the smuttiest of the series, but i loved being able to see different sides of both nesta and cassian and who they are together! i definitely needed the glimpse into both of their minds to fully love and connect with them. they really are both such beautiful characters and sjm did a fantastic job of relaying how different people work through trauma. i do miss rhys and feyre but i was glad to have the little glimpses of them thrown in as well. i feel like the break in the path to understand nesta/cassian was 100% worth it & im hoping we’ll get the same for baby boy az in the next book!!

i am so so sad to leave velaris for now and will prob end up rereading before the 6th one comes out (WHEN??!!)

i really loved the complexity of this one! caitlyn has such a beautiful, descriptive way of writing that sucks you right in no matter the context. the love interests in this one were a tad confusing, but really started to make sense towards the end of the novel - my allegiance shifted between the three of them pretty regularly and i think if it wasn’t for the apparent “brotherly love” descriptors thrown in i would have 100% been a gage girly for the majority of the read! overall this was a very enjoyable read but it did almost feel like a prequel to the next books - there was a lot of world building / plot forming that foreshadows to the next books in the series. this one is def for readers who enjoy more fantasy than romance (at least at this stage - i can see how more romance will come in later on)! definitely give this one a try if you’re looking for deeply complex and intriguing fantasy realm/ fmc!

i loveeeddd this book! i was enjoying every second of it and so excited to jump into book 2 (actually mad i didn’t have it on hand after that ending?!!!) this book was so different than anything else ive ever read - the magic, the politics, the spooky vibes?! obsessed!! i loved elspeths character and LOVED ravyn from the moment he was introduced! i do wish elspeth would have trusted him a little sooner but i totally understand her motivations so it made sense with the plot that she didn’t. the writing style was so unique and i was consistently drawn in throughout the book. i loved the rhymes and the cards at the beginning of each chapter was such a nice touch! really added to the reading experience overall.

i do wish there was some sort of little glossary stating which cards did what and what the price was for each bc i did find myself having to reference the first couple chapters quite a bit.

overall im obsessed with this book and would highly recommend if you’re into gothic romantic fantasies, unique magic systems, fake courtships (that aren’t actually fake

This one took me a little bit to get into - the world building is done slowly and consistently throughout the entire book which took a little bit of getting used to, but I really enjoyed it! It was actually a nice turn of pace from knowing absolutely everything at the beginning bc you're finding out more about the world and the characters as the FMC does. This is a dark fantasy story with intense sibling bonds and found family vibes (which i am def a sucker for). The magic system was also unlike anything i've ever read with elemental magic, dark magic, shifter magic, and other classes prevalent throughout the novel. I think having so many types of magic intermingle in one city really kept me guessing throughout bc you just never know what a character is gonna pull out of their sleeve! I read this super fast bc once you get into it it's SO hard to put down!! anxiously awaiting the next novel & highly encourage everyone to read! A.M. Eno's brain is gorgeous and you will not regret taking a trip to Thaumoria!

This book was such a beautiful exploration of mental health and finding your person, despite everything working against you. I loved the way that Logan supported Emiline throughout the novel and the amount of growth the two characters went through was so heartwarming to read. The mental health representation was so well written and I found myself repeating the things Logan said to Em in reassurance to myself throughout the novel, and I will likely come back to when I am anxious and doubting myself. This is a very fast paced novel and was the perfect palate cleanser between heftier fantasy novels. This had a slight forbidden romance element to it, which lead to dating in secret, but was full of really cute moments between the MC's. The vulnerability the two MC's were willing to share with each other was perfect

omg omg where do i even begin??? i absolutely LOVE this duology. i thought the first one was amazing but this one was somehow even better??? literally obsessed & it’s going on my list of fave books of the year (maybe even ever)! the added povs in this were EVERYTHING,, added so much dimension to the story and it was captivating. the heir & his girl was def a plot twist but i am living for it! i loved ravyn & elspeth even more than in the first one and the complexity present within nightmare literally almost brought me to tears

holy cow this book was like reading 3 books in one in the best way possible! i feel like the books i have been reading lately have all been centered around one major event but this one had so many! like every time you thought omg how is this going to keep going there was more and it was intoxicating! i finished this within a day and it was so enjoyable! literally could not put it down! there was a high level of detail surrounding the events but the chapters were short so it made it easy to just keep saying “okay only one more” haha ,, that didn’t turn out well for me though bc i just kept reading
