After everything that happens, the ending is a anti-climatic.

I was kind of surprised by how good this book was. Like for a book about rabbits, the story was incredibly rich and complex. It actually deals with some complex social issues and everything.
On the other hand, it is incredibly violent and borderline gore for something that I kind of thought was a children's book. Like some of the rabbit battles go into rather bloody detail. And are petty bloody for battles involving bunnies.

The blurb for this book promises something a lot more sordid than was delivered. After reading that Phineas would climb the social ladder by way of his lovers, I was expecting a male version of Rebecca Sharp of Vanity Fair and maybe a little social critique comparing how one was more acceptable than the other. Not only was the word 'lover' used in a completely different sense than we use today, but Phineas' so-called lovers were rarely called on for assistance.
Despite this, Phineas is a likeable character and you become invested in his success or failure, which is what compelled me to finish this book, though I was rather disappointed by the ending. I'm not sure whether I want to read Phineas Redux or if I'm just in for more disappointment

This book was really good. It reminds me a little of 1984, but feels more modern and more reminiscent of the world we live in today than the world we might have lived in if things had gone differently in the late 40s. Ray Bradbury builds such an interesting world in the first few chapters, and an unlikely hero, and it's such an easy book to read. I really wish there were more of his books in my library.

Read after bing watching the series. I really enjoyed this book, although I found the follow-up did not hold my attention
