your honor, they’re in LOVE!!

hand to my heart swooning, blushing, crying, silently screaming (plus obligatory "pissing, shidding, farding, throwing up" joke). this might be the most romantic thing i’ve ever read. is this how other people feel reading… idk jane austen or whatever?

goddamn. i can't think of a concept more thrilling to me than a memoir interwoven with poetry & anthropology. i need to buy a hard copy of this book after i defrost the part of my brain that is capable of comprehending theory again. beautiful, challenging, but ultimately hopeful <3

could this book be my catcher in the rye? that's a thing a person could say, i guess. unsure if that statement is affectionate or derogatory. (also i never actually finished catcher in the rye)

light, refreshing, a reminder of simpler times. i almost want to say it's a little "go girl give us nothing" but that feels disingenuous? sometimes it's nice just to drift along with the ebb and flow of mundane minutiae, to take a peek at tiny moments & insights that don't really have to mean anything to anyone else

marlowe granados included jean rhys at the end of her acknowledgments & that just makes perfect sense to me

haha damb. wonder what it was like for sarah pinsker to put this book out in late 2019 & then uh, y'know watch 2020 happen lmao

anyways idk i think i wanted to like this more than i actually did. maybe i'm just too jaded & shouldn't have pinned so much hope on this book being able to remind me why i used to care about things that used to be such a big part of my life? i love how there's clearly so much passion and idealism built into the story, and even though i agreed with all the points, i couldn't help but be a little put off by how preachy/soapboxy the writing could be at times— felt like there was a lot more telling than showing. something about it just didn't connect for me.
