Planet B by Jasper T. Scott, Aaron Sikes

A thoroughly entertaining book, I really enjoyed it. It has a good set of characters, a fairly reasonable plot, a sort of mash-up of Jurassic Park and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Plenty of action, an easy read, no need for a Phd in anything to follow the narrative, a good old engrossing, gripping and intriguing story.

Worlds Collide, book 2 of Architects of the Apocalypse. Well another entertaining book, plenty of action and more revelations in the story unfolding. A more militaristic aspect to the story than the previous book, more complications for the main characters, some deaths to contend with, all in all a decent read.

Plenty going on in this, I think is the final book in the trilogy. Action, adventure, intrigue, suspense, revelations a plenty, double agents, double double agents. I’m not sure if these are spoilers or not but reader beware.

Layla and Tom, I mean come on, who saw that coming, I thought for sure it would be Bruce and Layla, well just goes to show never assume. Other parts read like a 70’s soap opera, who’s your daddy, who’s your mammy. Oh no! I hope I didn’t sleep with my brother, I hope he isn’t the father of my baby. DNA samples being thrown around left right and centre, like an episode of Jerry Springer. Hilarious, I must say very entertaining, I found it quite amusing in parts or is that just me. The ending was a bit simplistic, a bit Disney-ish, but having said that it was still an enjoyable read.

The Event, book one of The Survivors Series. An interesting story, entertaining enough, I did enjoy it, a bit simplistic at times. It's convenient or that’s really handy in places, Eg like getting into an alien spacesuit and luckily, or how convenient we breathe the same atmosphere, type of thing. But all in all not a bad read, a fairly decent plot, plenty going on, some mystery, some intrigue, some action.

New Threat, book two of the Survivors series. A continuation of the story from the previous book, not a bad storyline, some twists and turns, that I must admit I didn’t see coming. Plenty to keep a reader occupied, action, intrigue. Unfortunately still some simplistic and convenient answers to problems and situations that occur. Not enough to put me off. All in all an enjoyable read, enough going on to keep me interested, so on to the next one.

Another solid instalment in The Survivors series, “New World” picks up the story from the previous book. The action, intrigue and suspense continues in this the third episode, they are indeed a page turner. Good, well rounded characters, and surprisingly interesting plotline.

Unfortunately it still includes the science of convenience, and “well that was handy” and “weren’t we lucky that we reversed engineered that in just two seconds”, no, only kidding, just a year. Oh! look I’ve just stumbled upon an intergalactic teleportation device, “wasn’t that handy”. However, that aside, It's still a very engaging and enjoyable read. I will carry on with the saga, regardless of how convenient the books are.

A good solid plotline, interesting characters, plenty of action, intrigue and suspense, all excellent ingredients to an engaging and entertaining read, a classic page turner.

The fight scenes are well written and graphic, adding to the tension and suspense. A must read for the fans of the genre, and a good read in general. Looking forward to more adventures, from this young aspiring author.

I’m afraid my interest is starting to wane, I'm losing the ability to care about what happens, I don’t want to, but I find myself skimming through this book. It seems there is no real threat or danger. The constant thread of moving on to the next clue is becoming tiresome and no end in sight. It feels like watching “National Treasure” on a loop. So I’m thinking of giving it a break, and picking up the saga at a later date, to see if that rekindles my interest.

"Alvin was an explorer, and all explorers are seeking something they have lost. It is seldom that they find it, and more seldom that the attainment brings them grater happiness than the quest".

A lot of questions being asked in this book about the human condition, psyche and curiosity to find out stuff, like what’s over that horizon, is the grass greener over that fence, lets go and explore, because our planet isn’t interesting enough for some of us.

Is there intelligent life elsewhere, out there in the void of space, perhaps we should look closer to home, and try and solve the problems on this planet before we go and f**k up another one, because it doesn’t matter which planet we go to, there we’ll be, “To err is human” boy he got that right!

Eight billion souls on this planet and counting, a few more questions, have we got enough food, have we got enough clean water, what about poverty, what about climate change, what about deforestation going on at an alarming rate, here’s an analogy for that, the world is trying autoerotic asphyxiation on itself. Wow I think I just had my first tirade on Goodreads, anyway back to the book, I didn’t think it was that thought provoking at all.

The Theos, book five of The Survivors saga. According to the blurb it's “a tale of love, adventure, deception and above all else: surviving”. Unfortunately there’s no suspense, no danger, no mystery, it's very predictable and a bit bland, oh! Everything is really “handy” and “convenient” to say the least. I found it difficult to invest in the characters, knowing nothing will really happen to them. Whatever dangerous or life threatening situation they find themselves in, you know someone or something “handy” will show up to save the day. The main characters constantly express a wish to settle down, start a family, have a normal life, difficult to do when you're the only person that can save the universe, a planet or a race of beings. I think, if I’m not mistaken, they've saved the universe in every book so far. Way to go guys! And don’t get me started on the theos, supreme beings, you must be pulling my plonker, after taking all that time to find them, what did they do, diddly squat, nada, absolutely FA.
