Not the type of psychological thriller that wowed me.

challenging

Leah’s condition—akinetopsia, or motion blindness—adds a fresh and immersive perspective to the genre, making her a compelling narrator and fascinating protagonist. The book’s tension builds steadily as Leah becomes entangled in her neighbor Alice’s dangerous situation, and Correa does an excellent job of weaving in sensory details that heighten the suspense.

The novel is perfect for fans of Lock Every Door by Riley Sager or the twisty, character-driven mystery of Only Murders in the Building. However, while the premise is intriguing, the pacing is slow at times, and the story occasionally feels like it’s going in circles before finally reaching its conclusion. The ending, while fitting, felt abrupt and predictable, which lessened the overall impact.

That said, it's a solid and entertaining read that delivers plenty of suspense and psychological depth. If you love unreliable narrators, eerie atmospheres, and strong female protagonists, this one is worth picking up—just be prepared for a slower burn.

Intriguing premise and filled with suspense.

I was hooked from the beginning of this book! Correa’s voice was strong throughout, keeping me turning the pages until the very end. The protagonist, Leah, lives with a form of visual impairment called akinetopsia, or motion blindness. Something I’d never heard of before but which created an intriguing premise. A clever detail which heightened her other senses, and an interesting angle to use in order to when describing her altered perceptions of her environment and people around her. However it also confused me, and I felt disoriented at times (which may have been the point). I love reading stories set in NYC, and this one was of personal interest to me since it took place in an apartment building a few blocks from where I used to live. The short chapters quickened the pace up and the characters felt very real. Leah’s motion blindness left me feeling suspicious of everyone around her, since it was difficult to pick up on their reactions, making Leah the perfect unreliable narrator.

After the midpoint, I found the story confusing at times, unable to tell what was real due to Leah’s state of panic. The reasoning behind the murder felt odd, as did the relationship between Alice and Mark, and their reasons for befriending Leah. Leah was an intriguing protagonist but the reveal of her true nature at the end came as a shock considering the lack of references to suggest otherwise (apart from the midpoint). I would have liked to read a different POV from someone who observed Leah, instead of it all coming directly from her. Her impaired perceptions definitely created suspense, but it also left a lot of the side characters feeling flat.

3/5⭐️⭐️⭐️

For readers who enjoy complex female characters, psychological suspense, and twisty reveals.

hmmm well the few twists in the book were shocking (yet, predictable in a sense).. I actually didn’t mind the fact that it was predictable as I made my own theories from the beginning to end. I wish they would’ve expand more on some details.. 3.5 would be the perfect rate for this book. Easy ready and entertaining for a slow day at work.

I was completely hooked during the first half of The Silence in Her Eyes. The premise was fresh, the tension was palpable, and Leah’s perspective of living with akinetopsia made for such an immersive and unsettling read. I couldn’turn the pages fast enough!

But then…the ending happened. And unfortunately, that’s where the book lost me. The buildup was fantastic, but the conclusion felt convoluted and left me more confused than satisfied. I don’t mind a good twist, but I really don’t like when a book leans too heavily into ambiguity, making it hard to tell what actually happened. Instead of feeling like a well-earned reveal, the ending felt frustratingly vague.

If you love psychological thrillers that keep you guessing (and don’t mind open-ended conclusions), this might work for you. But personally, I was left wishing for a clearer resolution.

Man, what a roller coaster of a read.
The first half of the book is pretty solid in my opinion. I had a hard time putting it. However, past that point, it got a little rough. The pacing felt off. The story went off in a totally different direction. Not necessarily a bad thing but in this case, it just felt weird. Like the author just included a bunch of other stuff to fill out the pages and make it longer. Honestly, this would have been a killer novella; remove the last half of the book with the exception of the last chapter.
Also this book could have benefitted from some page breaks. I did read an ARC (that I won through goodreads!) so maybe they'll be there in the final print but the author would skip several days, sometimes weeks, from one paragraph to the next. I took me a couple sentences to realized we've jumped ahead in time.
I was sitting at a steady 4 stars on this book until that 50% mark. Then I dropped to 3 stars. But that last chapter. Man. 4 stars because he really wrapped it up good.

This is a confusing psychological thriller. Didn't capture my interest enough for this to be a page turner either.

The main character has a type of blindness that doesn't allow her to see movement. She swears someone keeps breaking into her apartment at night who smells of bergamot. Meanwhile, she befriends her new neighbor who is in an abusive relationship. People also die here and there...from old age, cancer, and a heart attack. She also kind of likes a guy who works at the bookstore. Like ok. Wasn't a fan of the story or the ending.
