A hard read. He made some good points but other times would just reference the Bible for a whole chapter. Not what I was looking for.

Idiot

So I think this book is worth reading because it gives you the rules and enough backstory to make you buy into reorienting your life towards striving for better.

But minus 1 star because this book definitely goes on left field with the author's mix of long bible themed asides, personal anecdotes and cherry-picked stats. I think this book could have delivered the message in about half the length.

I appreciate the theme of focusing on yourself before criticizing others but the author seems to brush aside systemic problems of society as something that could be solved by individual action, if only we all tried hard enough. Which is irresponsibly naive given the gravity of breaking his other rules (20th century totalitarianism).

Ugh. He thinks he's a philosopher, but he's just arrogant. Way too long, too many words and not at all enlightening.

Not what I was expecting. I liked at first, then it droned off.

Great book of ideas. Many I agree with and others have me pondering my opposition. Interested to read other reviews.
inspiring reflective medium-paced

This book was an absolutely refreshing take on modern psychology and it’s unfortunate that it was lumped into the very limiting and misrepresentative “self-help” genre. It was truly a melding of neuropsychology, clinical psychology, philosophy, theology, and politics from a classical approach that extends the great conversation and gives hope to us all that we, in fact, can change our mindset through, among many suggestions, seeking the True, Good, and Beautiful in all experiences. More proof that the well-read just have a better grasp on the human condition! Granted, it was a long book, but full of so much Truth and deep consideration that I did not regret a minute.

There are genuine gems in here, but far to much bluster and conjecture to really recommend at all. Time I won’t get back

The 12 rules are good and positive messages that are worth reflecting on.
However the book itself is terribly convoluted and i often felt the message was lost in the amount of anecdotes and examples. Reading the book felt more like a chore than anything.
