Can’t wait for book 10

This book felt like a hug from a long-lost friend. I cried in the beginning, and again at the end. (oh and in the middle too) Looking forward to the next one.

Once again, left up in the air. Enjoyed the adventure but left waiting for the next instalment. When will this ever finish?

DG may have become uneditable which is a shame. But to be fair, it would be hard for anyone to edit 900+ pages of this content, even a professional. I throughly enjoyed it but I think it could have been 2 better shorter books, or maybe even 3.

Diana can do no wrong when it comes to Jamie and Claire and the entire clan. Well...in the books anyway.

There were parts of this book I really enjoyed and I wanted to keep reading. But then there were parts I really had to push myself through to finish the book. I felt like the end, especially, wrapped up very quickly. It felt like we were building to this battle in the revolutionary war, and it ended in a few very short chapters. The buildup did not seem to match the delivery. nonetheless, I always love visiting these characters and will continue to read the series.

I am so grateful I got one more year of starting out my reading challenge by reading an Outlander series book. It will now likely be several years before it will be a new story. I always enjoy returning to the world of Jamie and Claire, their children and their places in time.

We are now learning more about the powers of those who can travel through the stones and how they can extend beyond traveling through time to healing, sensing auras and each other. Claire even managed to bring Jamie back to life so he’s now defied death 7? Or 8? Times of the nine predicted by the fortune teller in Paris.

We were left with many dangling story lines: Will Lord John be saved or hanged for his crimes of sodomy? Will we understand more about who Richardson is and how he knows Claire since he is clearly a traveler and out to change history? Will the family make it through the Revolution without anymore casualties? Will Jamie avoid anymore snake bites in the future? What more will Claire be able to do once her hair has gone fully white since she’s essentially brought Jamie back from the dead? And I was so relieved that the corporeal they rescued from Ulysses’s company got the letter and the original land grant back for Jamie so at least that is not an immediate threat right now, though I bet Ulysses will be back.

I am very curious to see where she will take us in the next novel. I was sad to see this one end, as I always am.

After struggling all year to focus on reading books with my eyeballs, I’m so happy BEES held me engaged this past week. I’m about to start it all again with Audible, so I may absorb it all. My initial reaction is it’s 4 out of 5 stars.

I love J&C, of course, and their life on the ridge. After all their movement in MOBY, I’m glad they got some time to breathe, even with the political tension. I’m glad Jamie got the chance to rebuild, since the poor man has been displaced for so much of his life. I love B&R more and more and Roger’s POVs annoy me less and less. William’s growing on me, though I had to roll my eyes at his POV a few times because he’s a hot mess. Amaranthus can kick rocks. LJG’s perspective was the least interesting, though I sooo appreciate DG adding that twist at the end and throwing me for a loop. I appreciate that she shows the complexities of war, and especially that she shows the various hypocrisies of this war for “freedom”. Got me wondering if the British maybe should’ve won. That conflict on the mountain nearly gave me a heart attack. I love that things are getting more fantastical—I am here for it. This family is growing and thriving and I’m so happy for my babies.
