Wake me up when book ten is published.

I will always love these characters, but my tastes have changed since I first picked up this series over a decade ago.

4.1 ⭐️

I loved it, but it did take a little longer to get into it than previous books. Reading about my favorite literary characters after so many years was amazing, regardless. The world DG creates is so rich and so real, I never want to leave it. The last 1/3 of the book was the best and the ending definitely has me excited for the next book!

And now I’m sad…sad that I finished the book so quickly and will have to wait many years for the next book.

My wife and I listen to these together on car trips, and we both love everything* about the books. We love the story, the characters, the narration, the word play (although occasionally we need to pause to look up a word or phrase), and the settings.

*OK, almost everything. I don't love the death, violence and blood. I understand that the story takes place during the Revolutionary war in an untamed countryside. And I get that the needs of the plot causes character deaths and the fact that Claire is a doctor necessitates descriptions of bloody medical procedures. But, they can be a bit much.

I also have a small concern regarding Diana Gabaldon's and Davina Porter's ages. I would hate to not get to the end of this saga with them.

I have not read an Outlander book in almost NINE years.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but this book could have used some major editing. The religious passages - pages of them bothered me. There were way too many characters and it was hard to keep track of all of them. I would have rather had fewer characters that had bigger backstories.

I really do think that this book is to set up the tenth and final book.

Maybe I am wrong, but this book did not hold up to some of the other books OR maybe I am jaded by the length of time since I last read a book in this series. Apparently, Book 10 will be a while until published as it will be another large book.

Go tell the bees I’m done

Oh how I enjoyed the beginning of this book. Then it began to drag. Though I still have questions, this was a refreshing change of pace and content from the last 8 books. Ultimately though this story didn’t really feel like it was moving anywhere and the pacing was… odd to say the least. There is a lot of bloat that didn’t exist to this extent in the last books.

Yay, I finally finished this book after...how many months? The sheer amount of time it took me to finish this book is already an indicator that it did not work for me at all. Too many focalisers, too many places, too many jumps in time, and I didn't really care for the majority of characters. And I don't really care about the various side characters and their stories, I don't care about the entire political dimension, I only care about the core characters and there not much happened really? It was nice seeing Claire coming into her powers finally but somehow even the chemistry between her and Jamie was off. Disappointing through and through. Yes, I'm aware I'm also part of the problem, but the novel just didn't work for me. Also way too long. Ugh.
