thank my colors this books was as a ride of emotions once again. i wont lie though, i remembered too much everything that happened so i was never surprised nor shocked as the first time.
But i swear that reading these characters gives me an enormous amount of happiness that i cannot put onto words. it feels like family, like home.

I don't know if I'm just losing interest in the Young Adult genre, but I could not wait for this book to end. I'm starting to equate Mare with Katness where I spend the whole book hoping she gets killed off. I will not be picking up any more in this series.

MAJOR SPOILER AHEAD!!!

I still enjoyed the book but, like always, i prefer the first book also, Victoria deciding to kill Shade off is just unacceptable, she couldve at least kept him around until the 3rd. Also, HATED the love triangle in this book, once again. It made me REALLY dislike Kilorn. About halfway through i got very uninterested, i still finished it obviously and im still going to finish the series of course but It's only a 3 star for me

I absolutely loved Mare in the first book but in this book I couldn't stand her at all.
The action with Camoren wtf Mare ? I also thought she took the whole "I can't trust anyone" thing a bit too seriously. Sure, she was betrayed pretty badly by Maven, but in relation to that she hadn't even known him for a year. Then to not trust her family and Kilion anymore I think is over the top, especially since they've known each other (almost) their whole lives. I also thought it was a shame that the things Cameron, Farley an Cal said to her were completly denied by her.
But then again, if I had to lead a resistance movement and would be tracked by Maven at 17, I probably wouldn't be perfect.

I enjoyed reading this book, however, it did take a bit to continue and see it through to the end. It was well written and I enjoy the world it’s set in but the action was a bit slow for the beginning into the middle of the book. I do believe it was necessary to really set up and demonstrate the character growth and moral greyness that Mare is developing, but it still meant that it took a bit to get through. I also didn’t really feel too much at the deaths and the new bloods in the prison raid, I really only felt upset for Shades death, and found it a bit difficult to keep some of the less frequently mentioned new bloods names and abilities straight but I don’t think that’s Aveyards fault as much as it is my memory and attention. I’m glad I trusted the author and stuck through to the end though because I’m excited with how it ended and looking forward to the new book and what will hopefully be a slightly more engaging plot now that much of this character development has been established and rooted.

I LOVED this book!! It’s definitely better than the previous one in the series, Red Queen.

It explores more into Cal & Mares dynamic while the two are on the run, finding other newbloods.

Even towards the end once they realize new factors exist in the equation, and they fight against maven it was beautiful till the very end.

The only sad part is it ends on a cliffhanger.

Definitely a must read if you have read Red Queen, if not then go read Red Queen before you come here.

3.5 - hm I think I am in fact feeling convinced to read the next one. First half I did not think I would but it’s getting to me! Little less predictable, some good decisions made(thank you kilorn and cal getting along), and the pacing keeps you strung along, I read this in like 3 days. And I did in fact like hearing about the new powers!
