Went back and forth between giving this one 2 and 3 stars. It's a great set up, moves quickly and keeps your attention. But (SPOILERS)....hypnosis?! That's the big reveal. Great creepy villain that you never see (until the end and the reveal is cool, but overshadowed by the method), but it just seemed too far fetched, even for Jack Reacher novel. The endings are always a little off-kilter, but this one seemed to be a stretch.

As always an exciting read and a great escape into Jack Reacher's world! Usually Lee Child adds interesting background details of a subject. This book didn't seem to have it, but was still an excellent read. I chewed through it in two days. Exciting.
I generally like the Jack Reacher books but this title had some rather serious flaws. Without giving any spoilers, the method by which the victims are murdered was improbable at best and it seriously took me out of the story. I also didn't care at all for the author's portrayal of the FBI characters, in particular, the women. It was clearly written without much thoughtfulness put into fleshing out the characters and Harper seemed to be added as a way to tempt Reacher as opposed to being a functioning FBI agent.
I will definitely pick up the next title because I enjoy the series as a whole but this one was not a favorite.

A very clever story that kept me guessing all the way to the end. I was convinced I knew a couple of the answers but I was wrong! I found some parts of the plot a little unconvincing, and it took me a while to be gripped by it so 4 stars instead of 5, but overall I enjoyed it.
Disappointing. I'd picked the killer by a third of the way in and some of the major red herrings and false assumptions. I hate it when characters say I know something you don't know but I'm not going to tell you - extremely irritating. I picked the major premise in the cause of death but find it ridiculous. I'm not drawn to Reacher or sympathetic to his moral reasoning (which wasn't really presented). I thought the love story and the development of the associated dilemmas was excellent. And it was well written - I was desperate to read to the end with hopes that there would be a better resolution. As this is the first of the series I might give another a go and see how it develops.
Good God I'm glad that's over.
This is a fourth book too many. It's repetitive, circular, and tedious. It's 400 pages of Reacher and Co. going over the same points again and again and him bullshitting his way through it all and STILL being smarter than a federal organization. The best part was the 30 pages of climax where you are actually surprised to see who the killer is. Then there are stereotypical characters, flat conversation, and forced relationships. This series stopped being any good after the first book.
Edit: I realized after returning to one of the books, that I'd reviewed the incorrect book. I've changed to the correct novel, and just want to point out another small dislike I've found because of it. There is no true overhanging plot of the jack Reacher novels, making following the books in chronological order irrelevant. Also, it takes away from the luster of reading multiple books in the series, as there's no grand scheme to be attached and invested in.

Very good mystery novel.
It's my first Reacher book, however what I take from the TV series (which I can now see is extremely well cast), this book is much less action. You can feel Reacher’s frustration at the fact that he can’t just shoot his way to a solution.
Some of the plot points are a but weak, but its a very good story. Very well written - apart from the number of “I guess” through out the text. Reacher especially, strikes me as a person who does not say “I guess”. These should have been edited out. They are irritating and breakdown the solid story.
The ending was quite disappointing and flat. I understand it is the type of ending that these types of novels needs to keep going.
Harper’s character, though attractive, was just along for the ride. I thought she could do much more.
What frustrated me a lot, was towards then end of the book, when Reacher puts the pieces together, he author employs this modern tv drama technique of ‘I know whats wrong, but I wont tell you’. Its silly and breaks down the narrative for the sake of filling time.
