Gah! Julia can do no wrong! I absolutely loved this one! I loved the characters and their personalities and attitudes. I loved the premise! I loved the tropes and the characterization. Miranda was sweet and smart and funny and stubborn, and Turner was smart and strong and damaged and sexy. Their first meeting was so sweet and wholesome on her part and funny on his. Seeing how this man of 19 talked to and treated his little sister's friend, who was sad and insecure, made me fall in love with his character. I did dislike him for a little while toward the end when he wouldn't tell her he loved her because his actions and thoughts so clearly showed that he did, but that was all part of his growth. Just as her coming to accept his proposal was part of hers.
I can't wait to read the next one!

it’s never great when the mmc in the book you’re reading constantly makes you think, “damn, at least insert-other-shitty-mmc-from-other-book-here didn’t act up like this.” that’s how i felt about turner. the whole time. any moment he had a glimmer of redemption, he reliably ruined it by being a consistent douche…. and there are a lot of douche-y historical romance mmcs. i love you julia quinn, but this was rough. and yet, i always enjoy the journey!

I didn't think she could top the Bridgerton series, but I was mistaken.

Too old fashioned and bad steam for me. I wish the main character had a back bone. Least favorite I’ve read by this author. Not sure I’ll read more in this series.
Turner is just...not it for me. He was such a jerk to be honest. She should've ended with Winston instead...Turner was just all over the place. I mean, HE LITERALLY LEFT HER FOR WEEKS. He could've at least sent a letter but nooooooo he was simply "too busy" partying.

The beginning of this book was a little rough for me. There were too many mentions of how Miranda didn't know whether "to laugh or cry" and how each Miranda and Turner didn't know what the other was thinking or feeling. Now this may sound weird, but it makes sense once you read it, I promise.
However, it definitely picked up, and I quickly came to care for these characters and the storyline. I loved both MC's--how broken and tired Turner was and how hopeful, wholesome, and full-of-love Miranda was. They were the perfect compliment to each other, and I loved following their story and yelling at Turner to open his damn eyes. Overall, this is another great read and reminded me of [b:Any Duchess Will Do|15724338|Any Duchess Will Do (Spindle Cove, #4)|Tessa Dare|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1357240391s/15724338.jpg|21399879], which has a similar broken-hero/redeeming-heroine storyline and is one of my absolute favorites.

I think I'm of the opinion of a lot of the other reviewers here. For about 200 pages or so I was really enjoying it, loved the heroine, and really liked the main hero - I just think their relationship was great to read. But then for some reason in the next 100 pages, it felt like angst was put in for the sake of drama and not much else. I didn't get the whole I can't say I'm in love with you thing when he made it so clear that he knew that Miranda was nothing like his ex-wife. I still read the whole book cover to cover none the less but I wish the conflict hadn't been so forced - it just didn't seem to make much sense tbh. Was a 4 star book by half way but I think the second half let it down and for that reason this was a 3 star for me.
