Moving Maverick

Another great addition to the Made Marian series. I love the family and love seeing the expand. This series is one I'll read over and over again.

What a treat it was to get to spend more time with this series that I fell in love with last year. Here, we get to see Maverick finally find his love and we get some great Southern homespun hospitality. While I didn't find the central romance between Beau and Maverick to be as compelling as previous books in the series, I just enjoyed getting to spend more time in the world of the Marians. What an amazing family they are. So accepting and welcoming and affirming. If only more families were like them. I look forward to reading the next book in the series!

Thoughts while reading:
-pretty common for someone to leave a letter behind for a lived one. You’d think Mimi would leave something with the lawyer for Mav

-really, Mimi couldn’t have left one thing to Beau? Like the home he was living in?

-if Mav desperately wants to sell the property, but doesn’t need the money, why doesn’t he just give it to Beau? Like Mimi should have done in the first place

-Mimi’s an idiot. Doesn’t she know what foster care could have turned into? And she’s rich enough, she could have hired plenty of help as she declined so it wouldn’t be on Mav

-also, it was kind of annoying how they’d say they wanted to be together, then question if they were, going back and forth like that a few times, all the while never actually discussing what that would mean and where they’d live

Good overall

This was cute enough, and thankfully, the crazy old ladies weren't around as much in this one. However, I had major issues with poor Maverick's history. His parents were killed in a car crash when he was 13, and although terribly wealthy, and they seemed to be close, and she's often referred to as "a saint" by the townspeople, Mav's grandmother not only didn't choose to raise him herself, she gave no explanations, and never contacted him again! She left a poor, orphaned teenager alone, to be raised by foster parents. We did finally find out why, near the end of the story, but I found her reasoning to be utter bullshit.

I also hated the way the townspeople seemed to react to Maverick when he came home to settle her estate. They acted almost like he'd left her, not the other way around, and like he owed them something. Or like he was a gold digger, just there to get his claws into her estate. It just pissed me off.

I did like Maverick and Beau, but I thought they jumped into sex WAY too fast. There was no UST at all. They meet for the first time as adults, after being best friends as kids, and are already getting off together the next day. What follows, for me anyway, was too much sex and not enough getting to know each other as adults. Fifteen years have gone by, neither has any idea about the men they have become, but that doesn't seem to matter.

It just didn't really work for me, so I'm rating this 2.5 stars, bumped up, although it could really have gone either way for me.

Ok so this is my least favorite so far of this series. It wasn't bad, but it just didn't quite have the charm of the other books in the series. I liked the backdrop of this story more than the story itself. Rabbit Island was so quaint and adorable. I wanted Maverick to see that sooner.

I think the thing that bothered me about this story most was that Beau and Maverick never really addressed anything between them. It just all ultimately worked out. They never really talked and their relationship was based on how they felt when the were 13. Maybe if they'd been older that would have felt more believable, but that felt a little too young to hold onto those feelings all those years.

I liked the quirky nature of the town and the obsession of our boys with their salt shakers. This one had less of the other Marian's as well. Still it was enjoyable. I'm happy to keep moving on in this series. It always makes me smile.

Loved it!

Absolutely, hands down the best book in the series, so far! I can't even describe how many times the feels got me and took a hold. Fantastic read!

I’ve really enjoyed every book in this series so far - but this one missed the mark for me.

The beginning felt like I was missing some backstory and it felt like I started a story that was already in progress and missed the beginning. Without knowing the backstory, the second chance reunion felt out of nowhere and insta-love.

Also - Mimi was really the worst. Everyone in town painted her like she was the best lady in town but I thought she sounded awful.

I did like the end though. The old lady trio didn’t bother me in this book at all either. Loved the family coming together.
