I liked the book, and I did grow attached to the people in it. It's just that a lot of the time it felt very slow, and then later on we were speeding through it. Also, I wasn't a huge fan of the attitude the main lady had sometimes, especially when it came to making degrading comments about other people's looks and such. On the flipside, perhaps I got so attached to them because of the lengthy bits.

I was on my 8th grade when I started to read Torey Hayden's books. I wanted to be a psychologist and Torey was kind of a reference to me (still is). I love her books cuz they always touch me in some way I can't describe. This one was the first Torey Hayden book I read and it changed my life. The story is so touching and thinking it really happened, like omg! Every chapter I discovered a new shocking thing relevant to the story. I totally love her books, the way she works and writes. Murphy's Boy was my first and it's still my favourite because of the impact it had in my life.

Torey Hayden did more for this boy in two and a half years than some mothers do for their own children in their whole lifetime.

I loved the book as the previous from Torey.
Find it amazing how reality is portrayed as a sultry unknown ..

However, I still believe that the books begin to get you tired especially when you read it all in sequence.

One important note, this is not at all a good translation of the original book. Contains up enough misspellings.

This was a well-written account of the author's experience with a 15 year old "elective-mute" during her clinical psychology career in the 1970's.

I feel like this story illustrates how far we have come in understanding children's psychology, but it is also a reminder that we need to do more and be better advocates for children. Haunting.
