Spends to long pretending to be the first book
(Which was cute and like I enjoy the setting/was already invested in the characters so it's ok)

At some point it catches a snap tho and remembers the story it's supposed to be telling and suddenly it feels like reading lightning again❣️

can't WAIT for the third one

Wow, a truly excellent book. Beautiful stories, compelling plot, and an interesting world to explore! It’s just… Kvothe in the story is only 17, and so Kote has ~30 years of life to tell in just one more book?? I would rather he take 5 or 6 days (books) to tell his whole life well than skim over all the amazing stuff in this story. The framing of Kote telling his story to Chronicler does also start to fall apart here, as the contemporary world is very boring compared to the past but not in a way that is a good foil.

I think if I were sitting in an inn, listening to the innkeeper tell his life story, I would have really enjoyed this tale. But reading it in a nearly 1000-page book, I just wanted it to end.

I feel a bit conflicted giving this only 2 stars, because I genuinely liked the story, and the world-building is incredible. The execution just didn't do the story justice in my eyes. Kvothe's various adventures and the challenges he faces are entertaining, but in the grand scheme of things, they seem pretty insignificant. I kept waiting for something to actually happen.

One thing that could've happened, is learning something about the Chandrian. The motive behind basically all of Kvothe's actions and decisions is to learn the secrets of the Chandrian, but we still know very little about them. I get that they're meant to be mysterious, but after 1600 pages, I'd hope to be a little closer to the truth.

I was hesitant to start the Kingkiller Chronicle since the 3rd book isn't out yet and who knows if it ever will be. But now, having read The Wise Man's Fear, I doubt I would have picked the next book up even if it was published. I definitely wanted to finish this book, but after I had read the last word and closed the covers for good, I couldn't help but feel relieved that it was finally over.

This felt too long. I generally enjoy the storyline, but it droned on in some parts. The dichotomy between the thoughts of a 17 year old boy and those of a grown man can be off putting at times. Still looking forward to the next book because the storyline is good.

“Let’s stop there,” he said. “Money in my pocket for the first time in my life. Surrounded by friends. That’s a good place to end for the night.”

Pretty sure I read this one faster than TNOTW, I absolutely loved it. All the scenes in the university were great and I could read a whole novel just about Simmon and Will's day-to-day in The University;
Their friendship with Kvothe was written so well that it reminded me of my own friends lol
Denna's scenes are still my least favourite part, but eh, they dont take that long;
The scenes in the Fae world were really cool (I saw so many people talking about the Felurian sex scenes, but it wasn't even that annoying, a bit awkward for sure, but nothing much);

In the end I loved it even more than the first one, but it's kinda hard to talk about this one without acknowledging the controversy Rothfuss got into and the fact that, after 12 years, we still have no news of the third book. I want to be optimistic that one day the book might come out and seeing him talk about how he wants to get back at writing is promising, but still not enough.
