Caution: if you end up with the edition 'including an all-new introduction by Agatha Christie expert John Curran,' DO NOT READ THIS INTRODUCTION! I could not believe how he spoiled the timeline of this couple's relationship in only a couple of sentences.
She got me! Again! Honestly this was a friends to married couple romance as it is an espionage thriller and I love that. Tommy is Domhnall Gleeson in my head.
This was so much fun! I love Agatha Christie, but I wasn't familiar with her Tommy and Tuppance novels, so when I realized I had this story in a collection on my Kindle that I'd forgotten about, I chose to read it for an Agatha Christie reading challenge.
Tommy and Tuppance are childhood friends struggling to make a living in post-WW1 London. A lack of wealthy relatives or potential wealthy suitors forces the duo to think out of the box. They choose to hire themselves out as professional adventurers! They're first adventure pits them against an international criminal mastermind, and the fate of the free world depends on Tommy and Tuppance. They must find a missing girl and a secret treaty to prevent a Bolshevik coup in London, all the while avoiding the mysterious Mr. Brown, whom no one has seen!
The Young Adventurers, as Tommy and Tuppence call themselves, just want some money and a bit of fun. They seem to be a bit in over their heads with their first case of international espionage, but it's fun to see how they manage to hold their own against dastardly criminals.
Filled with so many twists, turns, and red herrings, I was kept on the edge of my seat. My idea as to the true identity of Mr. Brown kept changing. Just when I thought I knew who he was, I was proven wrong! That's what I love about Christie - she keeps me guessing, and I can never solve the mystery before she does.

My first Tommy & Tuppence book! I was absolutely sure that I couldn’t love another detective (in this case, a pair of detectives) more than I love my Hercule Poirot, but these two come AWFULLY close, let me tell you! The chemistry between these two, the banter and the snark… I just loved it! Nothing by today’s standards, I know, I know. But from the Golden Age… just perfect—*chef’s kiss, I tell you*
Of course, I don’t usually care very much for the book when Agatha goes all spy mode on us, and then too, how unbelievable that the government would take on these two young, inexperienced, untrained detectives to go undercover to help take down an infamous criminal organization—completely unbelievable! But it totally worked for me! I was caught up right away, hook, line, and sinker. And here I was thinking I finally figured out whodunnit this time, and of course, in true Agatha fashion—bam! It was not who I thought it would be. But… there at the end, I began to have an inkling of a notion that it might possibly be someone else, but of course I told myself that couldn’t be so, and then it was! So, I *almost* figured this one out, ha!
If you can’t tell, I really enjoyed this one and I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this short series (I’m already wishing it was more books)!

ти читаєш книгу написану в ХХ ст або раніше і наче все нормально і тут БУМ кохання між кузенами
Dame Agatha's second Novel shies away of the detective novels she's most famously known for and focuses on a spy thriller which has two fledging private investigators, Tommy and Tuppence, embroiled in the search for a missing highly secret document from the Great War (before it was known as World War One).
To make matters complicated, the mysterious Brown is also hunting down the document which could topple the British Government. All hinges on a girl to which the documents have been entrusted before the sinking of the RMS Lusitania (which was actually torpedoed in 2015) and has gone missing ever since.
While I enjoyed the search for the girl and the document and guessing the identity of Mr. Brown (it quickly became a 50-50 thing and I guessed wrong, so kudos to Dame Agatha). But the whole Tommy and Tuppence relationship and their oudated speaking patterns were not my cup of tea !

loved it!
The characters are fantastic, many twists and turns and never a dull moment. It was very easy to read and most enjoyable. Usually I can pick out "who dunnit" by the middle of a book. Not this one, it had me guessing until the end! Agatha Christie truly is a master.

Not my favorite mystery. Not like Christie at all. When there finally was a murder, it was grossly obvious who the murderer was. Not a bad story, just not... Christie-ish.
charming and all that. but if that silly romance and the way it was laid out were not there, the book would be better. so silly
The first Tommy and Tuppence book and what a ride! I really liked meeting these characters and seeing how they go about solving mysteries. There were a lot of plot twists in this book and I definitely did not see most of them coming. I did like the Inspector Japp shout out even though he never actually played a role it was cool to see that this is the same London as Poirot.
Overall, a very pleasant read.
