This is the thrilling final installment in the Legend trilogy by Marie Lu, and unlike some other young-adult trilogies that I have read the final books of this year, this one did not disappoint.

In Champion, months have passed since Day learned he had a brain tumour and broke up with June to spare her. Now, he's trying to prepare for surgery whilst looking after little brother Eden, and June is training as Princeps-Elect, living totally separate lives. But then they have to come together once again, as a new threat from the Colonies threatens everything, and a new plague has hit. The only lead the Republic has to try and cure this plague is Eden, but can June bring herself to ask Day for this? And will it be enough?

I really enjoyed Champion. I thought it was thrilling and exciting, full of twists and turns, and it stayed true to the other books in the trilogy too. I think sometimes it can be hard to tie up a trilogy, to tie up all those loose ends, while still making the book fun and enjoyable and stay true to the overall storyline and characters, as I think sometimes authors feel rushed. I know I've read final books in trilogies that have felt this way. But Champion did not feel that way. Lu knew what she wanted to do and she did it.

I felt like June and Day continued to grow and develop in this book, and their relationship continued to grow and develop too. They struggled in their relationship, but they both worked hard to make it work, and I liked that. It wasn't easy or love-at-first-sight. It was nice.

The overall storyline of the book was good too, and exciting, even if it did feel like a bit of a re-hash of the previous two books at times. It was still exciting though, and it kept surprising me.

I liked the ending as well. The epilogue was really nice and well-written, and I felt it was somewhat bittersweet at first yet it made it happy in a nice way without being too OTT in making it a happy ending, and I liked it. It was nice, and I felt like it meant that Day and June's story is nowhere near over yet, even if it won't continue in print.

Overall, a really good book and great ending to this trilogy.

Champion is the final book in the Legend trilogy.

At the end of Prodigy, the Republic finally seemed at a good place because it had a good ruler for once. But Day found out that he was sick and dying. He didn’t tell June because he didn’t want to hurt her and broke up with her.

Now, it’s found out that a new plague has hit the colonies and they’re blaming the Republic. They threaten war and June and Day with have to work together once again to ensure the safety of the Republic.

The book starts off almost a year after the end of the last one and things are still strained in the Republic. Anden is trying his best but progress can only be so fast. And with the new shit that’s going down, he’s in trouble.

This was a very good end to the series. The world of Legend expanded even more and we even got to go to Antarctica. It was very cool. The pace of the book was fast and I loved the story.

There was a lot of focus on Day and June’s relationship and how they were still recovering from events of the past. I was afraid that Day illness might not get enough attention but it did and I’m happy about that.

Eden’s presence in the book was very welcome and I loved seeing him and his relationship with Day.

The writing was good but I would still advise Marie Lu to tone down on the commas. Run-on, descriptive sentences can become tedious.

The ending was bittersweet for me. While I understood the direction that the author took and like it even, I couldn’t help but be sad about it as well. I definitely didn’t see it coming. I wish there was some “After Champion” short story.

Overall, this was a really good book and part of a great series. I’m very glad I read and I recommend you check it out as well.

Have been buddy reading this series with Anne - been so much nicer to share thoughts and theories from another pov esp when the person has different opinions on the book!

My reaction just after finishing - *tears* yep, no one died but ze ending left me in tears

I had to give it a few hours before I could write my thoughts:

The 5 stars already tells it all, but... here we go:

So, the ending acc surprised me - I was definitely expecting Day to die... and was NOT expecting the HEA Marie Lu gave us...

dystopians rarely have happy endings if you hadn't noticed

I mean Day and June - check the spoiler if you've read the short stories between champion and rebel or want to know what happens anyway
Spoiler - get back together and are perfectly fine, Anden DOES date June for a bit but then they realise they're not meant for each other, and also Eden and Tess have a thing - i was like awww when I heard about Eden lol.

In fact everything ended too well - with maybe Day forgetting June for a while being the exception... like he magically escapes from the Colonies airship, Tess survives, Eden survives, June provides the cure, Anden doesn't do anything crazy and the list goes on... not that I'm complaining - I always hope for HEAs... just pleasantly surprised and slightly confused... LIKE NO ONE DIED! (still in shock if u hadn't noticed)...

But other than that I LOVED it - the plot was literally amazing, loved how it was shown that diff govt have their own adv and dis adv with problems coming either way... both characters were well developed imo and had their own stories to tell... I love how we got to see more of Eden and Anden's characters in this book in a deeper way than we did in the other two... I'm excited to read about Eden and Daniel not Day in the next book - wonder what'll happen there... also I thought the idea of Antarctica being this super tech country is pretty cool - chips in the forehead + being controlled by the govt not so much... but u get what I mean...

I liked it. It entertained me. I think I need a break from the dystopian teen novels and trilogy's.
