Am I supposed to like him?
Swoon?
Well, I don’t and I’m not
He’s so mean
Yeah I get what she did was lowkey not ok and she’s apologized and paying for it but he’s using that to control her and throws it in her face every chance he gets. What she did is NOT worse than what he’s doing.
And I don’t give a flying rats ASS that she forgave him in the end
I wish this man would be mean to me in the morning and then come back in the evening thinking some steamy hot banging gon fix everything✋

I was thinking this was more of a 3.5 star for me, but then I did stay up late to finish it. Cal is definitely one of the more abrasive alpha males in this series so far. Neither he nor Jane are very likable at first, but that changes as their relationship deepens. They had a weird sense of humor that helped to humanize them. Loved the side story with Cal's parents, Jim and Amber Lynn and wish there had been more done there.

I didn't like this one, at all.
I hate both of these characters.
A lot.
We have Jane Darlington, who is described multiple times as a bifocal wearing, uptight geek who has no social life and basically fails at everything that isn’t science.
…the stereotypical geek who needs a man to loosen her up and make her realize she’d much rather be fucking him than doing silly science problems.
Then we have Cal Bonner who is an ASSHOLE. I’m sorry, there is this “alpha males are so sexy~” idea in almost all of romance fiction but I draw the line where he is basically kidnapping her, locking her in this house. He flips out when she goes for a walk. He HAS A COW WHEN SHE BUYS A CAR SO SHE CAN ACTUALLY LEAVE THE HOUSE
And the SHE thinks she's powerful and "doesn’t let him push her around” because she stole all his marshmallows??? REALLY?
I'm not a fan.

Have read this at least 4 times. Novel and inventive plot with great characters. Funny and sound
Ridiculous
This book is ridiculous, and not necessarily in the best of ways. Jane and Cal are irritating most of the time, but it did get a little interesting near the end.

absolutely there are parts of this book that dont age well but this is still a fun romp nonetheless. you can tell the author has no knowledge of physics but i appreciate the effort. these two characters are not particularly interesting on their own BUT the dynamic between them is genuinely ridiculous
Why do I keep reading SEP?! She's a great writer with a knack for interesting secondary couples and h/H pairings that make me want to knock their heads into walls for a week straight. This was no exception. I picked it up after Sarah MacLean tweeted that it was one of her top 100 romances, and I'm glad it was a library book and not one I purchased.
"'Listen to me. You put up a fight, and I'll demand full custody of that baby. I can keep you in court until I bankrupt you.'"
"'Please don't do this. This is my baby! Nobody's baby but mine!'"
I can say with 100% certainty there is absolutely no way I would have read this book without the pressure of my book club. Even with their pressure, it still took me several months to actually pick this book up. I knew going in it was going to be problematic as the book didn't age well. I also knew the book had a ridiculous plot. And yet, I still wasn't prepared for the sheer wildness of this book. I listened to this book with a "wtf?!" face the entire way through and spent more time screaming in my car and laughing out loud in public than I care to admit.
This book may be entertainment and/or loved by romance readers, but I can tell you this is not the type of book that I pick up for entertainment. (And that's ok!) I can't even rate this book because I hated the characters, the plot, and the writing so much that I was definitely hate listening to this once I got past the first chapter. I tried to keep an open mind, I really did, but I just couldn't find the entertainment value in this one. I truly appreciate Kelsi's love for this book (to see her laugh over this one is nothing short of fantastic), but I will let Kelsi keep all the love for this book.

If I remember correctly, this is the first romance novel I ever read way back when I wouldn't admit I read them. I decided to reread it and wasn't pleasantly surprised to find I still like it as much now as I did back then. The tow characters are unique to any other novels I've read but not to life. I love how SEP puts them together, and pits them against each other at times. The heroine absolutely refuses to take any of the hero's crap, even though he can be an intimidating figure. Great story with very funny moments.
