I don’t know what it is about these books where I keep reading them but I’m also kind of bored. I found myself skimming most of this book. The story is there and I’m curious on how they are going to resolve the issue Dempsey has, but also I’m not 100% locked into the story.

Well it was good but like others said a bit repetitive compared to book 1: the dragon is hired to protect a human and realises he’s his mate.
I read book 1 in April so there was enough time that I still remembered the world but had forgotten enough that I didn’t feel like this sequel was too similar but I wouldn’t recommend reading those back to back.
In the first book he has to protect him from a stalker, here it’s from something invisible. The mystery was interesting at first but the solution was quickly obvious so it got a bit boring as it dragged on and repetitive: they open up about each other, Dempsey is exhausted, they discover a tiny information and the cycle repeats.
I also fell like they were kind of flat. We don’t know much about them outside the fact that they love books and antiques. Honestly I’m feeling more intrigued by the other brothers but I don’t think I’ll go ahead with their books. Or maybe way later.
Their meeting didn’t make sense either: the guy is worried about his shop so he accepts to travel to London with the bodyguard he just met because the guy can’t miss his trip. I know they’re mates and all but from the human POV it seemed really weird (he does talk about it but I still thought it was a bit too much)
Overall I think the length was what made it a bit boring for me.
And to finish, I know it’s a detail but it’s going to haunt me sorry

Hemingway and Dempsey are extra swoony. I think it’s because they both love and appreciate books so much, and the way Hem woos Dempsey is full heart eyes. But the way he protects Dempsey is all dragon.
“I will set this world and the next on fire if that’s what I have to do to protect you.”
I really enjoyed the adventure elements, and how it threw all the dragons for a loop. Dempsey, especially, tugged at my heart with the struggles he went through to find his forever love. I’m looking forward to spending more time with this adorably growly family and seeing who gets hit by fate next. I have a feeling it might have them all sniffing out more than they expect.

Smolder is the second book in the Drake Security series written by Mika Nix. Mika Nix is the combined paranormal alter egos of authors K.M. Neuhold and Mia Monroe. Smolder is a MM shifter romance with a guaranteed happily ever after and no mpreg. It's told in a first person dual point of view. You can expect fated mates, dragon shifters, a shared love of books, ancient mysteries, and magic. Although this book can be read as a standalone, it's much better if you read it in order.
About: Ever since Hemingway's brother found his fated mate, he can't help but desire one himself. His dragon certainly wants one and has become increasingly restless. Dempsey hired Drake Security for protection for an unknown threat against his antique store. His new bodyguard, Hemingway, is captivating but there's no way a man like that could want a man like Dempsey, right? Hemingway's drawn to Dempsey in a way that seems awfully...fated, however, the problems at his store are well above Drake Security's paygrade.
This was another steamy and relatively low angst read from the fantastic duo of K.M. Neuhold and Mia Monroe. This dragon shifter series they've crafted has just been so much fun, and I really enjoyed the paranormal mystery aspect of this specific one. I loved Hemingway and Dempsey as they navigated their complicated feelings for one another. We got to meet some new characters that I hope we'll see again, and it was great getting to meet the Drake family a little bit more...including the brothers' parents! I think this series would be a great introduction to the world of shifter/paranormal romance, and I enjoy the bodyguard/security aspect of it.

His words burrow into my chest, and I add them to the little personal hoard of my own I’ve started building. A hoard full of moments and memories of all the ways he’s making me fall in love with him.

I don’t think I’ve ever read about a more perfect match in my life. Although a story about fated mates, it was evident that the two could have fallen in love without the pull as well. Their interests were simply so aligned!
Two bookworms who are fated mates, one of them a dragon and the other a human with a problem and the dragon has to protect him. Absolutely perfect conditions. And the characters of Dempsey and Hemingway are really interesting and a perfect match.
The story itself is also good in terms of the idea, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. Grmpf. That was disappointing, unfortunately. A few small scenes here and there that entertained me well but on the whole it drags on super annoying and boring.
Even the sexy moments are nice but can't hide the fact that the story just isn't interesting enough.
What I mean, there really are these little gems hidden here even if most of it is cheesy to no end.
“We could spend a million lazy afternoons just like this, wrapped up in each other, reading passages from our favorite books and then making love until we’re too exhausted to go on any longer.” One of those rumbly dragon purrs moves through his chest and out through his lips. “You just described paradise, as far as I’m concerned.”
