I liked this book a lot. It put a whole new interesting twist on the Greek myths. I always love these kinds of books. I’ve also always been interested in Greek myths so when the chance to review the book came up I jumped at the chance. I finished this book in one sitting. I really couldn’t put it down. There wasn’t much that I didn’t like.
Persephone was a really sweet and sympathetic girl. There were times where I did feel she was a little childish and very naïve. I liked it better when she seemed more mature. I do like how loyal she was and willing to do whatever she could for her friend. Hades was a whirlwind of different emotions. He quickly changed from angry, to happy, to annoyed to irritated back to happy and he was almost always soft around Persephone. I do felt that he coddled her too much and well lets just say he needs a lot and I mean a lot of advice on how to treat women and their emotions. I couldn’t help but love him though. He would do anything for Persephone. You could tell early on his feelings for her. I just wish he wasn’t so stubborn.
Overall, the book was pretty good. I was actually surprised at how fast I finished it. It only took me a few hours to read. The book was fast paced and full of action or information. There was never a dull moment. Kaitlin is a wonderful writer and I’d love to read more of her works. I highly recommend this book to people who love these kinds of books.

I used to loooove reading books based on mythology, so I was super excited to come across Persephone. A modern retelling of a Greek myth, Persephone is the story of a high school girl who discovers she's actually a goddess.
Persephone was a really fun, quick read. It took a minute to get into the book, but once I did, I loved it and flew through. I read it on the plane last weekend and kept laughing out loud and hoping my neighbors didn't think they were next to the creepy girl who laughs to herself. I actually highlighted a bunch of the passages I thought were funny, but I don't want to spoil it. Okay, here's one.
"Everyone secretly wished they were special. But in all my dreams of discovering I was a superhero, or a witch, or maybe even a princess, I'd never gone as far as goddess. That was too pretentious."
Love it.
Persephone takes some fun turns on traditional Greek mythology. A lot of the gods you've probably heard of are there or mentioned, but there were also many I'd never heard of, and even the ones I had heard of weren't what I was expecting. There's also a really cool world introduced -- but I'll let you discover that on your own!
Persephone is a really fun book -- not the deepest or most high-brow book but a lovely book that you'll love reading!

I really don't know how to feel about this. On one hand, yeah it has elements of a typical ya fantasy book. The main character was put in danger and taken to safety basically in a palace where she could have anything she wanted. There are times where she's annoying, but then she has moments of maturity and admitting she was wrong. Her moods were so back and forth.
I thought all the explanations for the gods were solid. And the little twist at the end was nice, althoughI'm SO mad about it because I liked Thanatos and their friendship was adorable and he seemed to actually care about her!!! He betrayed us all, I'm just so sad :((( But it did get me interested in the second book, so there's that.
Either way, this book has been on my TBR list for YEARS and I FINALLY read it, so I'm satisfied :)

The story of Persephone and Hades is a personal favorite for me, and at times the book read like a fan-fiction story, which I suppose in a sense it is, but I still enjoyed it. The author did a surprising amount of research which she incorporated into the story. The faithfulness to original mythology is something that I really appreciate, despite the modern setting of the story. There were some plot holes and leaps of faith that had to be made, but overall it was very enjoyable and a quick read. Easily finished over the course of a long weekend, or maybe less.
Reread number one: September 2014: I think the mark of a truly great book is if it not only remains ENJOYABLE.but gets even better with each read. Persephone is a truly great book. Even knowing -.especially knowing-.what was going to happen I was still emotionally involved and on edge. I LOVED THIS BOOK.

I was given a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. I absolutely ADORED this book! In fact, I'm gonna come right out and say, that it's probably my favorite book, well, ever. Aside from Harry Potter and Ranger's Apprentice, obviously. The second I finished it (THE ENDING IS PERFECT.) I started freak-out-fangirl texting my best friend. Seriously, I love this book. It's a romance novel, yes, but even then, I'd still say I liked it more than Hunger Games. Easily. And, y'know, a girl can use a GOOD romance novel every once in a while...
The best part? NO CLICHES!!! Happy Lynette!
I'm 16, and I HIGHLY recommend this book.

This is interesting enough to hold attention, but the additions of the Greek myth characters are somewhat trite and overdone.
I wanted something greek mythology and short and so ended up with this. As long as you accept this is a young adult book and treat it as a coming of age novel rather then something that is going to fill in your blanks on greek mythology then this is just the thing. For me it wasn't quite as good as Aimee Carter's Goddess Test series but it was what I was looking for.
Warning: Persephone in the first half annoyed the hell out of me, quite pretentious and a little too self righteous but as she learns about her powers and herself she does settle down a little bit and becomes a more engaging protagonist. For me that is a good piece of character development so if her traits and making you consider not finishing the book please just bear with it

Disappointing. It was pretty predictable the whole time!
