I have a lot to say and none of it's nice. Back with a review.
if anyone has an extra $200,000 they wanna drop on a crumbling tuscan villa hmu
It takes a lot for me to not finish a book, but unfortunately I had to give up on the last 20 pages or so. The character seemed distant, the writing felt forced, the story was nonexistent. She bought a huge house in Italy, had to hire people to fix it up, end of story. It seemed as if she was just watching the house transform under the hands of the workers instead of making any connections with it or the land, and as a result, it's difficult for the reader to have any connection with the story. One of the rare times that the movie was actually better than the book.
Saw and loved the movie. I reasonably deduced the book would be even better, particularly with the addition of recipes included by the author. The premise indicated I would fall head over heels with the memoir - way more so than the movie. Unfortunately, I found it a little slow and lower far than my expectations, due in large part to the lack of action.

If you think this is going to be anything like the movie, think again. What I thought was going to be a light rom-com adventure in Tuscany was in fact a memoir about a very privileged white middle-aged woman who I couldn’t connect with. And there was no depth to any of the people in her life. No focus or development. The only thing I learned about Ed was that he is a fast driver. Otherwise I know nothing about him or their relationship together.
One positive was the food —definitely made me hungry reading. And I’d love to go on a holiday to Tuscany someday!

One of my favorite books. Comforting like warm sunshine. Inspires me to bake homemade bread and cook a hearty meal. Beautifully written. Highly recommended.
If you’re thinking of trying this book because you loved the movie, know that they are nothing alike. This is a plotless book. While the writer is incredibly talented, it gets quite boring to read about a wealthy woman and her husband who spontaneously buy a house in Italy and seem to have all the money in the world to flip the house and eat and drink whatever they want constantly. It’s a dreamy life, but the character was difficult to connect with, and the lack of plot left the book made it even harder to get into.
Enjoyed this book. Especially hearing of the major overhaul of the Tuscan villa.
