“I reckon if you stay in one place too long, you might start taking it for granted,” Keane says. “But if you keep moving., everything holds its wonder.”

A very quick, lovely read. Listening to Anna heal her heart while sailing with Keane was just really hopeful and emotional. The ending was a little rushed and I wish the author had spent a little more time developing the conflict and resolution. I want to read the next book, but did not like Rachel very much in this book, so I might skip to the third book instead.
Moderate: Ableism, Injury/Injury detail, and Suicide

Absolutely loved this book. We’ll developed characters, both learning to live with loss. Sunny sailboat setting. Made me want to quit my job and live on an island in the Carribean!

📚Float Plan by Trish Doller
⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
There was a lot liked about this book, and some I didn’t like. I especially didn’t like the ending. This is a book about life after loss. It opens with Ben’s suicide note to his fiancé Anna. After his death, Anna recklessly decides to take his sailboat and sail from Florida to Trinidad, alone, on a trip they had planned to take together. She quickly realizes she does not have the skills and has no business attempting this journey by herself. Enter Keane: a charming Irishman battling his own demons and mourning a different kind of loss. He agrees to help her in exchange for free passage to Puerto Rico. I liked how two broken people could come together and help one another heal. I also loved the sailing and the descriptions of the islands they visited and the people they meet along the way. It reminded me a lot of my own extended travels in my 20s and made me nostalgic for that time. This was a quick read and I wish the author had gone a little deeper with the characters. They fell a little flat for me. The ending of this book was irritating. But if you like a good travel romance, and you have any interest in sailing or the Caribbean, it’s worth the read.

From page 1, I was hooked to Trish Doller's 𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐚𝐭 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧. I read it's entirety on the flight home from Florida and it was such a delight 😊 This is another one for my 12 Book Recs in 12 Months Challenge and I am so glad my friend suggested this one to me! I'm not sure I would have picked this one up on my own, but this has been a favorite romance read of 2023 so far.
The book begins with a trigger warning for suicide and dives right into it. Anna is grieving her husband's death by suicide and decides to take a solo trip on their sailboat off the coast of Florida to the British Virgin Islands. After realizing she needs help on her journey, she meets Keane, a handsome sailor guide with a prosthetic leg. Still processing her feelings as a widow, Anna takes her time with Keane. I thought Doller did such a great job being sensitive to the pain and emotional well-being one must feel after having experienced such a profound loss, and I loved the dynamic between Anna and Keane. I also loved Queenie, the little stray that stole everyone's hearts (including mine) 🩷
This was THE PERFECT vacation read, and I'm so glad I brought it on our trip!
