Intriguing and fun! I read 100 Cupboards aloud to my 10-yr-old son. I love it when I can find a book that interest me as much as it does my son.

What a fun read/listen. Very light and made me giggle a number of times. A great magical fantasy that should be turned into a movie.

Henry's parents go missing and he's sent to live with his aunt, uncle and cousins in Henry, Kansas. He's enjoying small town life until plaster starts dropping from the walls of his attic room, uncovering 99 cupboard doors that seem to lead to magical worlds. Henry's cousin, Henrietta, is in on the action and more gung-ho than Henry to investigate, which only leads to trouble and blood and evil cats, of course. A slow start with a big dark finish. I'm curious what happens in the sequel, but not enough to read it.

A book - a series starter - that has many good points. The author has a good light touch with humor. In fact, these are the strongest parts. The actions and slightly off center comments from Uncle Frank are the most winning and charming parts of the book. The author should pursue a storyline where this side of his writing gets to shine through.
The Fantasy element does not feel organic and born of the world Wilson builds. It feels "imposed" by the authors imagination. Some - too many - of the action scenes are confusing and tough to follow. The sense of drama, danger, and suspense is lost as you try to envision what is described.
That said, I will give book #2 a shot and at that point might as well commit to book #3.

This story was gripping, fun, thought-provoking, really terrific. Even my wife found herself spending the evenings downstairs because she didn't want to miss a single chapter of the action. The writing is lyrical and enjoyable, the characters are likeable and amusing, the setting and storyline are gripping, mysterious and exciting.

I’m very confused by this book. It started off VERY slowly and then all of a sudden packed a lot of bizarre action into a few chapters at the end. And I’m still left with so many questions. I suppose I’ll have to read the rest of the series before I make a final decision on what I think of these.

CC: magic, violence, sibling name calling, a super creepy bad witch, parents missing, adoption, lots of family secret keeping, beer drinking at a cook out
