I am always curious about how shifters are going to be explained in series. Especially mythical creatures that are not a part of our world. In this book, the dragon is from another realm. HE was sent to Earth when there was a coup in his world. HE has been cursed by a voodoo practioner and he will die if he cannot find a way to break the curse.
The heroine is a witch descended from an ancient line but she doesn't know it. She has been slowly dying of cancer for years. She makes a deal with the dragon and he saves her but she must break his curse.
This book was different. It was an easy read andI will read the rest of the series.

Gabriel has been in the human realm for decades ...his mother sending him, his brothers, and sister there to keep them safe from their evil uncle who killed their oldest brother for the throne. Now in New Orleans he has to find a way to lift a curse placed upon him after he turned down advances from the Voodoo Queen(Lack thereof) before it saps all his power and harm those under his protection. Raven is dying from cancer a brain tumor and doesn't have any time life. After a visit from Gabriel she's given a new lease on life, but only under the condition she helps break the curse before his time runs out on Fat Tuesday. While Learning about the curse Raven finds out about her own families history and powers. Plus falling for a dragon who may or may not live to see a HEA.

Raven got on my nerves at first like sis was doing the most and dramatically overboard being stubborn. She was putting poor Gabriel through hell and some I swear. When she finally got it together she became one badass chick and tearing stuff up! I loved that for her...Gabriel fyne self played that sexy grumpy dragon part to the "T" I swear. Really enjoyed the book.

This was one of those books that was better than what I expected. I enjoyed so much reading this book. I loved how this had so intriguing plot to follow. I couldn't guess all twists and this was overall an awesome read. This had so much more happening than "only romance" and I think I enjoyed reading for that reason so much.

I liked characters - Raven was full of life after she had got her health back and I loved her attitude. There maybe could have been a bit more interaction with secondary characters but now I enjoyed those moments when there were. They were fun scenes. This world was so fascinating overall.

The thing I especially appreciated was that the author had done her research and it showed. I loved so much all those stories about legends of New Orleans and I think the best thing in this book was the atmosphere. I really loved it.

A dragon and a curse in colorful New Orleans. Did I mention a dragon? This first book in the series is packed full of supernatural creatures, romance, suspense, adventure, and magic. The story is well-written and pulled me in from the very beginning. Raven and Gabriel were both terrific characters and so much fun to read. Raven is such a strong woman even when she doesn't realize it, and she and Gabriel are just so good together. This story is completely engaging, and I can't wait to see what's next in the captivating world the author has created.

I'm not sure why I believe the dragon shifter romances won't be a toxic male personality. I didn't get far because I also hated the fmc who had no empathy for her care givers after she was healed.
