DNF @56%.
I really wanted to love this book! The concept sounded great and I genuinely tried but the contradictions were just silly and the pace was really off. It just didn’t work for me. *sad face*

This could have been a good book. The storyline had promise, but the execution was poor.

Yummmmmayyyy!

I went into this book with low expectations and was blown away by the story! It’s hard not to fall immediately in love with Raven, she’s such a little feisty gal who was forged in some serious fire. Toss in a hot dragon who has a history of intrigue and 8 siblings and I was hooked! I’m diving straight into book 2 right now!! Tobias, here I come!!

Gabriel Blakemore is an immortal dragon who has been cursed by a voodoo priestess. Raven Tanglewood is dying of brain cancer which may have given her psychic visions. When Gabriel has run out of options, he cures Raven to try to help him. She discovers her magic powers and they both fall in love while trying to break his curse.

This is the first in Genevieve Jack's The Treasure of Paragon series, featuring immortal dragon siblings exiled to earth. There's quite a bit of world building, but it doesn't overwhelm the plot. There's a nice balance of romantic plot, suspense plot, and world building -- making this a really great first novel in the series. I actually can't wait to read the rest of the series and find out what the rest of the dragon family has been up to during their years on Earth.

It was fine. If you’re in need of a bit of a dragon romance then this might just hit the spot. There heaps of magic, and magical creatures and the whole different realm thing going on.

I don’t think I’ll keep reading the series, but it was fine.

So this is the story of Gabriel and Raven and what a fabulous and addictive ride this was.
So first Gabriel's ring has been cursed by a local voodoo Queen who wants his power to aide in her own immortality.
Gabriel a long-lived dragon who also walks in human form needs his ring to stay on earth if he doesn't find a cure or return to his homeland Paragon he will turn to stone.
After locating Raven in a human hospital and sensing her psychic abilities he offers her a choice he will cure her cancer if she comes to work for him breaking his curse.
So I adored that this was set in New Orleans and that Gabriel had an antique shop: very fitting indeed.
The opening scenes here with Raven's illness and suffering as she slowly dies from a brain tumour seemed believable and authentic.
I felt her internal struggle and also her final acceptance of her nearing fate that is until an additional fantastical option is brought to the table that could potentially save her life.
This was for me such an easy addictive read that I was instantly invested in almost from the first page.
The connection between Raven and Gabriel here for me blazed so brightly and I felt it from the instant they first connected.
This also had a fantastic underlying story and the setup here for progression was great really paving the way for future books: I for one can't wait to read the rest of this imaginative series.
This was a book I read in one sitting so that says it all really: this is rich in magic, legend and love so if you like your paranormal then this one I highly recommend.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of The Dragon of New Orleans (The Treasure of Paragon Book 1).
All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

I loved this book. I downloaded the first book for free and bought the next. I'm new to paranormal romance but this was great--original in the sense of characters. The development was very good, I saw growth in Raven and Gabriel, which isn't always accomplished. Jack did a good job creating atmosphere. Even though it could have had more detail, it still held a great balance between character, plot, and setting.

Now I'm looking forward to reading the next in my hometown, The Windy City.

DNF 50% (pg. 170)

This book started out very interesting, even with the fact that the heroine was dying of brain cancer, but that didn’t last. The world building is pretty minimal in this. The magic system is never really explained and Raven’s abilities are also not really explained. I know I didn’t finish the book but at 50% I expected to at least understand how this magic and voodoo filled world worked. Also there is travel between dimensions in this, which is how the dragons got here, and it isn’t explained at all. Raven and Gabriel have a bond that started when he saved her from her cancer but I didn’t really love their relationship. It was a lot of Gabriel and Raven pushing each other away for various reasons, then turning around and jumping into each other's arms. I also didn’t like how Gabriel never seemed to want to answer any of Raven’s questions about magic or his previous employee who was helping with his curse.

This book just isn’t working for me and while I know I can finish it to potentially get some of the answers to the above questions, I also know it won’t be worth it since I haven’t really enjoyed this so far.
